...but why defend alchemist? Why is it disrespectful as a consumer to change your preferences? I don't know if you are referencing a specific post but in general, it isn't like people are speaking malicious lies to deliberately hurt the alchemist's business, they are just expressing and explaining their taste preferences in a community developed around talking about the product.

Responding to both your posts quickly

My point is not that people shouldn’t prefer other beers (and express those opinions). I also said I preferred much of what I’ve tried from SC/OH

My problem is people claiming Alchemist beers are now “hyped” just because there’s a beer they now prefer more. That is ridiculous IMO.

There is a distinction between saying “I used to love beer x but now far prefer beer y”, vs saying “beer y is amazing, but beer x is so overhyped”

If this isn’t clear now to you or @guinness77 then I won’t bother attempting to clarify again.

I get what you're saying, I just didn't understand why you picked the Sand City thread to go after the "hype" people/posters.

@cosmicevan I was referring to most of Sand City's "flagship" original beers like Fade, Second Wave, Mofo...if they are DDHed I didn't know that, so thanks.

Just because it was already being discussed further up in this thread I guess I don’t know what else would be required... I know I was a little late to the party, but I don’t think that’s an atypical reason. Sorry I just don’t read the SC thread as often as some others, so was responding to something a few days old. Usually catch up about once a week. I made a similar point in the Grimm thread when the same topic came up there. But anyway if I disagree with anything in the SC thread in future, I’ll leave it alone.

They are indeed DDH'ed as far as I know.

Don't really understand what you're getting so upset about. I think most of the people who post in this thread would agree with what you were saying regarding The Alchemist. Me included. I think one person said he preferred SC over The Alchemist, and if he feels that way, then fine.

Feel free to discuss whatever you like...this IS a discussion forum after all

All good to have an opinion...I can't speak for @guinness77 but I was just conversing. I was mostly saying who cares or that I didn't understand why people talking down about a beer that used to be on a pedestal would bother someone. At the end of the day, this stuff is all BS. Its our hobby and as such we all like to think we are experts since we dedicate so much time and energy to this...but like any hobby there will always be people who have opinions based on other people's opinions and there will always be people passing their opinions off as fact. Try not to let it bug you or this hobby is going to make you grumpy. I can assure you that there will be someone who thinks that what you love is garbage and vice versa you will think what someone else loves is garbage and you will likely encounter someone with an opinion on a beer that they only had an oz pour of...such is this hobby.

For sure as you can see I’ve been on here a few years (as have you). I understand the way it works - and trust me I’m not remotely grumpy (or upset @guinness77 ). But as you say, everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I’m sharing mine - that opinion being that IMO people should have a broader appreciation for the breweries/beers/people that have taken the beer scene from A to B, rather than being a blinkered fanboy of only the latest and greatest.

I just got the vibes that this thread is off limits for that type of point - which has confused me.

Anyway sorry to derail the thread. How is +2 tasting

@rozzom , I was basically agreeing with your point and you know by now, nothing is off-limits in this forum.

I guess to get into it a bit more, I think the hype thing, and this is my get off my lawn rant, is more due to age and newness to good beer. Many of us know what it's like to into your local and have like 5 good American beers to pick from and then go to purchase your favorite imported beer. The choices on the shelves are infinite now and the breweries with cans to go are within 10-15 minutes of each other. It's really an embarrassment of riches and for people who never experienced having "just" Sierra Nevada, Brooklyn, DFH, Blue Point, etc to pick from they're just not gonna get it.

Also, attention spans. Every new/rehashed style is the best. My favorite brewery is the best. My go-to cloudy IPA is the best. Oh wait, this other beer is cloudier, this new brewery has 30 minute lines for cans. It's a mentality now, the whole FOMO thing, and it seems as though it's permanently etched into the new mentality that comes with drinking beer. I think drinkers like us control what we can control and leave it at that. These new jacks want to thumb their noses at Focal or Heady, I'll be there to pick up the pieces as long as the price is right.

TL/DR: rozzom, express any opinion you like, you're ok in my book.

We will have a BA SC crew positioned at Suffolk borders to prevent your entry. We will be throwing full cans of 2 day Heady at you to knock you off your bike.

A lot of valid points going on here, too many for me to comment on, but have to comment on what I bolded above. I don't personally know the brewers, but have seen them around the tap room and have seen them walking the line on release day in rain and freezing cold counting people so if need be they can lower limit and make sure as many people get beer as possible.

I miss the 12pm mid-week releases where I could grab a beer and eat half the container of utz pretzels as a substitute for lunch.

Plus 2 is solid but (I hate saying this) might need a week. The aroma is rediculous it’s all pineapples. I’ve only smelled one other beer with this much and that was in Charleston at Charles Towne fermentory. In any case the flavor didn’t back it up for me. I will say it hid the alcohol much better than 2nd anni did on tap when that was released. Really hard to tell it’s 9, no heat from the one can I’ve had.

It seems the general opinion of up the beach was not as high as I thought it was but I had recently had my Second to last can of this the day before having plus 2, and it blew plus 2 out. UTB has become all peaches.

Unrelated it appears the unannounced can release could be plus 1 this weekend. They posted about a tap takeover at cest cheese in PJ and it mentioned a pre release of plus 1

Now now...I love all the love going on, but let's not forget what actually IS off limits in this thread, right?

So I guess speak to everyone tomorrow night then?

Fingers crossed that the taproom opens soon. Heard at the last release that the town has really been not helpful in speeding up the process to get things open and have even started to require the brewery to get permits for releases where crowds were expected.
