Get with the times Monkish. You've made enough profit to atleast put a down payment of a bigger cooling system.

Up in the Bay Area, Moonraker and Cellarmaker still haven’t jumped on the online sale train. I’d lump Fieldwork in there too but there’s never a Monkish level line At the Berkeley location—just the normal wait to get a pour/fill.

I mean like what the ef Monkish...

You've been canning for well over a year and a half and you still put out <160 cases each can release?

    Why no expansion? What gives?

unless they move, or lease another space, dont see monkish putting out more cans. they're currently limited by their space

Unless it's something like Trillium Canton, I don't want them to expand. Maybe if they take over buildings in the lot or something, but otherwise, they appear pretty happy with the size they have.

Expansion comes with a lot of risk and, here in CA, a metric fuck ton of red tape as well. Probably not worth the headache. They sell everything they make within 2 hours or less, so from their perspective their current system is extremely efficient. The customer's perspective is totally different, though, obviously. Everybody wants easier to get cans. But I can easily see Henry thinking, "why fix it if it isn't broken"?

Your post doesn't make the least bit of sense at all.

I never questioned the efficiency of their current business model. You do realize they will sell out of everything no matter what or how much? I'm questioning why their so reserved from making more money and ultimately supplying more of the world with their product.

Expansion isn't bad... because uh, how else did they get to where they currently are?

Your post is the nonsensical one.

Beer consumers are fickle and this year's fad style/beer could easily change next year. Even if the fad sticks and demand continues to outstrip supply, that doesn't mean expansion works for Monkish.

Look at Russian River. They waited an eternity before they decided to expand and while you could argue they waited too long, it's up to them how how much (or how little) debt they are comfortable with taking on to finance an expansion.

Sure cans are a pain to get, but really if you want Monkish IPA go down there any time they are open, have some tasters and fill up a growler or two.

You also don't live in Los Angeles. Maybe Boston?
But no matter where you're at, LA is likely more difficult to get permitted and find affordable/available space that is convenient to your current location. They also sell nearly every drop of beer they make in their own space, so they make more from those drops than if they distributed it, plus that would bring on more work for the staff.

Some people aren't motivated solely by the prospect of making more money. Expansion is a gamble, especially in LA.

Edit: I'm not a hazebro and don't buy much beer from Monkish that isn't a fruited sour. An occasion hazy ipa that reminds me how over those beers I am.

No, you see, more cans means more money and who doesn't like money? I like money. you like money. Monkish clearly doesn't like money. nope sir. no money liking is them.

Sure, the place is tiny and their every bit of space is used at all time to keep a schedule, but what gives, yo. why can't you magically fill more cans so trade bros could fedex it to me easier?!!?

Do their ipa's on draft taste the same as what's canned?

I've yet to find someone who feels that way. I haven't had any of their cans, so I don't know. I do know their ipa's on draft are good, but not outstanding. So I'm expecting those cans.... Are better.

I've had about 4 or 5 monkish releases and drank at their tasting room about the same amount of times. I think they make good beers but there are other breweries making beers just as good that are easier to get. I've had beers both at the brewery and their cans and all have had really high ratings. Think the beers on tap are good but not as good as their cans. I know i'm probably in the minority but that's just my opinion.

Thread was dead before my post. Now the hazebros come out because they want to keep their margins high on reselling and trading Monkish beer.

    Sad.

I've typically liked cans better than their draft-only offerings. However, that is rather rapidly swinging to the neutral stance because their growler fills lately have been pretty damn good.

I mean, you can think that way. Sure. But most people didn't say that at ALL. People get enough beer to enjoy during releases (err, if you get cans) and there are now usually multiple IPAs on tap as well. At the same time, you also have beers around the area that also make great IPAs, as others have mentioned. Why would Henry and Adriana feel the need to expand if they feel where they're at right now is where they want to be?

Also, see Noble for how long it can take to even get another facility open. It ain't quick.

I also feel like monkish should expand. There is no reason they couldn’t do their sours or ipa’s at another site and do kind of what The Bruery did with Terreux on a smaller scale. Even if monkish doubled their ipa output it wouldn’t sit for long, maybe we’d get the first ipa to last overnight.
I know breweries have a lot hoops to jump through, but if they didn’t have a tasting room on site it isn’t as hard, and Torrance is one of the more beer friendly areas.

None of the people who responded to you are 'hazebros'. You can tell by the correct grammar and spelling. I'm sorry you didn't like the responses that you received.
