Wolf Tree • Bull of The Woods Rum Barrel Aged Spruce Tip Barleywine

This thing is about as convoluted as you'd think it'd be. The spruce and the Rum barrel aging aren't two great tastes that taste great together. Kinda like chewing a stick of Wrigley’s while drinking a weak Rum and Coke...

Good morning BA, have a great Sunday! 3 day weekend for me this time, but I will still be doing my usual routine with bottle returns and laundry. Another bitter cold day out there right now, but it is not supposed to snow until tomorrow.

Breaking into the new hero 12 pack. Haven't had this in 4 years. This is fantastic! Flavors of big mango, tangerine, grapefruit, peach, pineapple, passionfruit, lemon zest, orange peel, light pepper, and pine hops; with moderate honey, lightly toasted bread malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation/body; balanced bready/grainy malt and sticky hops in the mouthfeel. Slight resins/rinds, increasing bitter dryness, zero hop astringency. Refreshingly drinkable, never overly aggressive. Juicy and fairly dank hops; balanced bready malts. This is so smooth for an IPA, I love it. Hope 6 packs make it to the shelf soon, will be getting this again for sure. One of the best ones in the series. Citra is my overall favorite so far in my reviews. Have the Denali and Northwest to review yet from the pack. A Centennial one is coming later this year too. 4.25

Fantastic as usual. Flavors of big toasted coconut, milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, vanilla, cream, toffee, dark bread, marshmallow, and light coffee. Light balancing roast bitterness against sweetness; with an amazing creamy/silky/velvety medium body; light touch of sticky/chalky roast character and dryness. Glad it was easier to find this year. Definitely my top favorite coconut beer, but there are plenty others I buy more often. Wish this was year round. I bought a full case worth of 4 packs this year. This, Born Yesterday, and Xocoveza are my top big buy beers of the season every year now.

5 year revisit. Excellent stuff! A bit better than I remember, also darker in color, hazier. Aromas and flavors of big tart lemon, lime, apricot, cherry, orange, grapefruit, pineapple, berry, green apple, white wine, mango, melon, papaya, fruit skin, citrus peel, hay, straw, grass, and pepper; with moderate honey, toasted bread malts; and lighter notes of banana, clove, leathery/musty funk, and yeasty earthiness. Light-moderate peppery yeast spiciness and Brett tartness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; balanced creamy/slick malts, acidity, and stickiness. Light-moderate increasing tart/spicy yeast dryness; no pucker/astringency. Mildly increasing warmth of 10% after the finish. Very smooth sipper. Very impressed with this. Great well rounded fruity/funky Brett complexity with balanced malts. Never overly sweet/heavy feeling for the ABV. Will be revisiting Tart Side of the Moon very soon. That will be a 4 year revisit. 4.0

Today's massive new beer review. This is amazing! Fantastic lasting head retention and thick soapy lacing on the glass. Flavors of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, molasses, vanilla, cream, rum, toasted oak, dark bread, and wood smoke; with lighter notes of licorice, charcoal, cherry, raisin, prune, fig, date, red wine, leather, tobacco, and nuttiness. Bit of booze in the aromas as it warms, but not overwhelming. Light roast/char bitterness and rum/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Light-medium carbonation and very full body; with a very smooth, rich, creamy/silky/velvety; and lightly sticky/chalky/tannic mouthfeel that is fantastic. Slightly increasing dryness from roast bitterness and rum/oak tannin spiciness. No acrid/astringent flavors. Mildly increasing warmth of 13.9%, no barrel booze. Dangerously smooth sipper. Not quite matching last year's Brandy/Scotch versions, but nearly as impressive. On the smokey side for whatever reason, almost peaty. Perfect integration of rum barrels and the base stout as expected. Look forward to the Tequila soon. 4.38

After the excellent Atlantik-Ale, I wanted to try more by Störtebeker, which I ended up regretting. This "Hanse-Porter" tastes more like a Malzbier: very sweet with almost no roastiness or bitterness.

Early morning recipe required a stout. Didn’t want to use something I had to wait in line for. LOL! I guess this will do. [IMG]

SN Celebration 6.8%... Fresh hop ipa.
Bottled on 11/16/17 kept cold. Just found one. I can't believe this was in my fridge the whole time and I forgot about it. At 60 days there is no noticeable hop fade. Still really hoppy. Tastes about the same as it did around thanksgiving. I will get some more next winter.

    Ahhh, yes . . .

Beautiful clear gold color with white cap and good lacing.\

Aroma of fresh yeast rolls, honey, flowers and spices.

Taste on entry is a complex array of sweet, bready malt with floral, spicy hops weaving in and around the central malt core. Very complex, very sophisticated, very, very good.
