    New Beer #2
It seems the stars have aligned and I am home alone for a few hours before the last round of Dad's taxi. I save new beers of this caliber for such an occasion. I got to use my thistle too...
    My review:
12oz bottled June 2017 poured into a thistle glass at slightly warmer than fridge temp, no ABV listed on bottle. The beer pours very dense dark brown with light tan head. The head recedes to a thin ring and leaves nice lacing. The aroma is lovely with bourbon, oak, vanilla & light smokiness. The taste is semisweet and lightly smoky malt with more vanilla, oak and just a touch of bourbon in the finish. Mouthfeel is full bodied, lightly carbonated, rich and smooth. There is no real bitterness, but this beer never approaches cloying. Overall, outstanding. This is how you add to a base beer style with a barrel, not overpower it with spirits.
    Recommended.

Well, that does it. Central Waters is my all time favorite barrel aging brewery. Outstanding beer, no hype (yet), and sitting on the shelf with no limits. They only started distribution in southern Indiana this year, so folks might catch on. Until then, I'll be getting my share. Enjoy the new beer in your glass tonight!

Good evening NBS, hope everyone is still enjoying the end(or middle) of the weekend. Made my usual bottle returns and beer haul as usual. Got some more new beer too. Just finished up the laundry for the week, so I will not have much to do tomorrow on my day off. Maybe some banking and a grocery run. Been slowly doing some revisit writeups this year, have a lot of stuff I feel needs a new opinion/score. Will get done eventually :stuck_out_tongue:

    More new beers:

Been a long time since I had a Brewdog beer, but now they are in Columbus so I got a handful. This is awesome! Aromas and flavors of big tangerine, grapefruit, peach, pineapple, passionfruit, mango, melon, berry, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, pepper, and pine hops; with some honey, lightly toasted bread malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Large sized pine, citrus rind, peppery, herbal, grassy bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation/body; balanced bready/grainy malt and sticky/resinous/rindy hops in the mouthfeel. Moderate increasing resin dryness, no hop astringency. Super easy drinking even with a harsh finish. I loved this. Aggressive as hell, classic west coast stuff. Extremely dank/vibrant hops with a nice solid pale malt backbone. Columbus, Centennial, Amarillo, Citra, and Simcoe. Wonderful hop profile. 4.15
    [IMG]

Very nice porter. Certainly a huge improvement over the Darkangel, which one of my lowest reviews. Aromas and flavors of lightly tart/tangy cherries, fruit skin, milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, and toasted biscuit; with lighter notes of nuttiness, smoke, char, and herbal/peppery hops. Light-moderate herbal/spicy hop and roast/char bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation/body; nice creamy/bready malts with some sticky hops and chalky roast. Very slight cherry tang/acidity. Lightly increasing hop/char bitter dryness; never acrid/astringent. Very drinkable, 6.5%. Delicious stuff, will buy again. Nicely rich and well rounded porter malt complexity, balancing earthy hops, and nice authentic cherry presence that isn't overdone. The base porter is the main flavor showcase, complemented by the cherries. Spot on American style porter all day. 3.9
    [IMG]

I probably have 10 more Gose in stock to review haha. Hardly any reviews for this one. Really great stuff! Aromas and flavors of big tart/sour green apples, fruit peel, lemon, lime, mango, melon, berry, white grape, white wine, sea salt, hay, straw, herbal, floral, and grass; with moderate wheat, cracker, honeyed malts; and lighter notes of pepper, lacto funk, and yeasty earthiness. Moderate fruity/lactic tart/sourness, fruit tang; and light yeast spiciness on the finish. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; balanced grainy wheat, lactic acid, and salinity in the mouthfeel. Moderate increasing lactic/tangy fruit dryness; slightly puckering, but super drinkable. As with all ET gose, this is on the really lactic/salty side of the spectrum; but not overbearing. Great well rounded fruity yeast/lacto complexity, balanced green apples/salt, and a solid wheat malt backbone. Tastes like Mission Gose with apples added. Same score. 4

Couch surfer from other creek brewery. Pours a solid black, medium carbonation and a nice thick creamy that often comes from the addition of oats. Aroma is heavily roasted malt, some chocolate, and an almost roasted peanut oily smell. Taste is roasted malt, some chocolate. And a slight bitterness which must be from hops as it doesn't taste like the usual bitter coffee or cocoa in most stouts. At first it wasn't that enjoyable but after warming up a little this was a really nice, slightly different stout. Not a lot of coffee or chocolate but still really nice[IMG]

    Happy New American IPA Sunday!

Pretty nice day on the Western Slope, around 45, sunny. Lots of people today at the trailhead. Nice little hike. Today's brew is my first from this brewery, everything I've seen from them is a bomber around $8, there's 5 or 6 of them, not sure which I'll pick up next, if any. Catching up on some Law and Order reruns, on the last 2 seasons.

    Greetings, fellow NBSers,

Currently mostly clear and 42° near downtown Spokanistan. This is probably our warmest day since Thanksgiving. Still some slushy snow here and there that hasn't gotten enough sun to melt.

A few new beers were consumed by yrs truly this past week. Had a decent Hoppy Pils from pFriem, a Bba Impy Stout from Crux that was a total booze bomb, and a couple hazy NE-esque IPAs from Iron Goat and Young Buck that were quite good.

Today's 1st New Beer of this Sunday is from @WesMantooth, and is essentially a wheat wine fermented with fruit:
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1432/107710/?ba=woemad#review
The wheat is mostly in the finish and aftertaste. The fruit dominates, but thankfully isn't a sugary hammer of fruit juice to the head. Were it not so boozy (no sign of the 9% in the taste), it might even be sessionable! Another fine beer from Jackie O's.
    Thanks, Corey!

New beer #5. @Roguer I went with your original advice and only bought a single.

Hazy Little Thing - Sierra Nevada
    IPA - 6.7% abv
    Canned 11/27/17 (48 days ago)
Purchased at Monde Market for $2.59
    Score: 3.84 (2.8% rDev)

L - Massive bright white head atop a hazy yellow body.

S - citrus, bread, some booze.

T - follows the nose. Low bitterness. Quite sweet.

    F - medium body with medium-high carb.

O - definitely hazy, but not at all a NE IPA. Lacking in smell and taste.

[IMG] Poured around 55 degrees bottled 11/21/17. It leaves a very attractive head and plenty of wispy lace, with a few floaties. 4.5

Smell is toffee, caramel, dates, candied sugar, vanilla, and figs. 4

Taste follows plenty of dark fruit, vanilla, brown sugar, caramel, toffee, and maybe a little hint of alcohol. 4

Mouthfeel is a tad bigger than medium, not overly carbonated, maybe a little dry, and at 10% ABV extremely approachable..4

Overall this is what a BarleyWine should be. Big, loads of odd flavors that some how work together, and makes you smile on a cold winters evening. 4

    Bottled 08/14/17

L-The beer pours a thick dark black with one finger of dense mocha head. The head recedes to a thin ring with patchy lacing.
S- The nose is fairly muted but the typical elements of chocolate and dark roast make up the majority. There is a musty, earthy aroma which I assume is the hops.
T- The taste is a near perfect balance of chocolate and roast. The beer is so well balanced that you only get glimpses of each element as you sip.
F- Mouthfeel is medium full. Carbonation is prickly, but light overall. Not the thickest stout, but more than adequate for the style.
O- One of the best milk stouts that I've had. If I had access it would be a regular in my fridge. Recommended.

Brilliant golden pour with just a smidge of hop haze and a fluffy, foamy head. Pine and sweet citrus dominate the nose, almost to the point of being cloying.

The taste, though, is on point, with a barrel full of pine and citrus flavors throughout the taste. Just a really enjoyable interpretation of the West Coast-style IPA, IMHO.

    Overall 3.83 -1%
22oz bottle dated 7/10/17 poured into a Teku
    A: Hazy orange with a two-finger head
S: Dank, tons of pine, some earth and a bit of tropical fruit
T: Matches the nose, quite bitter
    M: Medum-bodied, immensely dry/bitter
O: This might be for some, always nice to see new hops, but it needs a bit more fruit

Another cold day in the Mitten, perfect day for an ice carving fest with the kids. Of course, I planned to go to a beer centric restaurant afterwards. Take note new dads, “family time” with a brewery or beer bar ending the day makes everyone happy.

My new beer today is from the last NBS BIF, courtesy of @smanson56.

Bottled 3/13/207. 16.9oz bottled poured into tulip. Just about black pour, no light comes thru. Almost a finger of cappuccino colored head. Some lacing.

Trying to let it warm up a bit but I do get a pb&j essence. Light roasted peanuts, not pb, but bigger raspberries. Some crusty bread too? Probably my subconscious picturing a pb&j sandwich.

Taste leaves a lot to be desired. Peanuts, chocolate and vanilla and an overpowering amount of tart raspberries. I don’t get a whole lot of bourbon or booze for that matter.

The body needs to be bigger. This beer is a bit of a disappointment to me, I’ve hyped myself up for it. Maybe it’s bigger and better fresh. I received in a BIF around October, at this point it’s 10 months old. I’d be willing to give it another go with a fresher bottle. Still, an enjoyable beer.

Greetings NBS faithful and thanks to @cjgiant for the kickoff post. I do try to think about improvements and changes for the new year. Thinking and execution, well, those are two different things. With some of the ideas I am doing better than the Mayhem guy...others are already left behind.

Last weekend we had huge snowdrifts. By now we have had a beach day, the snow has vanished, and we are back in the deep freeze. I have a 55 gallon ice cube in the driveway. Got home Friday night during the height of the rain and there is an ice cream cone of recycling in the headlights. I guess I didn't drill drain holes in the emergency back up recycling drum... We were out seeing The Bodyguard as a musical, which was surprisingly good. Well-acted, but the female lead didn't seem to be on her A -game.

On to tonight's victim. We had chili for supper, and I am not sure I have a great pairing but it is OK.

Left Hand shows up here fairly regularly. This with the juniper caught my eye since I do enjoy an icy Tanqueray and tonic when it's hot out. It sure pours pretty. The picture doesn't do complete justice, but close. The head falls in a few minutes, rings nicely, and there is some decent cling. Lots of little replenishment bubbles rising thru the gold. The smell opens with juniper, a little crackery malt, herbal/floreal but very mild hops, the faintest whiff of funk, and a little bit of pepper. The taste...well it us kind of sweet, definite juniper and gin like taste, and a mild but definite homage to the Belgian tastes of spice and pepper, maybe banana. No bitterness to speak of, just a little tartness. Light and easy., fairly dry but not completely dry.

I find I do enjoy this beer, but I don't think it is particularly outstanding. It is what it says it is, no surprises. Given my last disaster with the overblown, nasty spruce tip beer, I am pretty happy with this. It will be in the 3.8 range.

Greetings All from the Great Northwest.

Sunny today and 50 degrees, which makes us warmer than parts of Florida. We'll take it, with a little sympathy for our Florida brethren.

With our spring-like weather a pale ale fills the glass. The 425 from Bellevue in the area code 425.
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/30532/99981/

A nice pale ale. A bit dry and chalky for my taste, but good anyway.

First big brew kettle weekend of 2018. Yesterday was a Beir de Mars (for March) and today my go to pale ale recipe. All in anticipation of spring.

Glad to see JAX knock off the Steelers today. Guess where my rooting interest will be next weekend?

    Until then,

    Happy Trails!

This beer looks awesome! As far as keeping my beer budget in check, this has been my story too. All IPAs have been $5+ and that was what I drank most of last year. I’ve gotta right that ship so I can tuck a few bucks away. I’m not drinking at all this January as @cjgiant had asked about. I’m doing this along with a few of my workmates. I’ve kept strong, but I think I’m going to splurge and get myself some kinda super $5+ IPA for that first beer in Feb, haha!

Left hand Fade to black stout. Cometely black, about medium carbonation as well as medium pleasing body. Aroma is roasted malt, licorice, and some yeast. Taste is identical, just a bit of coffee added to the taste that wasn't prevelant in the aroma. The licorice doesn't overpower which is a good thing. This is pretty decent stout that like the last one I reviewed here today needs to warm up a bit to be really appreciated.[IMG]
