out of curiosity, I haven’t seen many if any posts looking for/trading away the original rare. Has it fallen off after this many years or has everyone simply enjoyed their bottles?

Should've at least capitalized Rare. To those who don't know what he's talking about, he's referring to the original Goose Island Rare Bourbon County Brand Stout (https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1146/62397/) from 2010.

Original Rare is indeed rare. Best stout I have tasted. I don't go to secondary markets, as I hate them and wish they all would get busted and put completely and permanently out of business, but I can only imagine the price it demands at this point.

Last release of Rare, however, should have been called Steep, because it wasn't rare, but the price sure was steep.

Im sure I’ve people seen people crack them open. More for the novelty factor...I’d imagine it’s past it’s prime. Wouldn’t even wanna know secondary price on them.....Can’t be many left tho...
Not like vanilla rye or something. Still a ton of those.

Don't want to hijack the thread, so I'd be happy to discuss it in person with you. I see you're a beer trader. Why don't you trade for some KBBS and I'll be over to explain when it arrives.

My fault, I figured everyone would know the Rare(see what I did there ) of which I spoke.

But yeah, just curious because I was hearing it was past it’s prime 2+ years ago. Don’t know how true that would be but I can’t imagine it’s worth what it would take to land it at this point

The original is probably past its prime, but the 2015 Not So Rare Rare is still around. It still is turding it up in NYC for $100+ a bottle. I cracked one last year that I got for $55 on my 10th wedding anniversary, was a 1/2 a notch better than regular, but felt cool to open on a special occasion.

Now I’m not trying to land an OG Rare but what do you guys think it’s taking to land one given the fact nearly everyone thinks it’s past it’s prime?

The fact that it’s past it’s prime honestly means nothing for this beer. I’d say it’s gonna take a good bit lol.

Had it last year and definitely still really good. One of the best stouts I’ve had. To say it’s falling off is crazy.

    That's amazing.

The one time I was able to try it, it was back in 2011, and I thought it was pretty much at its peak then.

Fabulous beer. I tried it near the end of a huge BA stout tasting, and the beer still really stood out (my recollection is that a bourbon barrel aged Dark Lord was really the only beer that seemed better). My palate was completely wrecked when I tried it, but even so, it was apparent that I was drinking a flat out amazing beer.

Incredible that it's still drinking so well now.

Just an FYI, the poster you quoted did not mention whether they were alluding to 2010 or 2015, both of which have been mentioned here.

Good point. For some reason, based on his post, I just assumed he was talking about the 2010 version.

I was talking about the OG. I should have mentioned that. My wife kept going back for pours while we were opening other bottles. It’s ok since she pays for my habit.

I have a bottle of OG that I’ve been thinking about trading but have had a hard time figuring out the value.
