They have kept the to go only line in the past during PTY week.

I still get excited to try it each year, even though I don't usually dig triple IPAs. Never had another come close to being as enjoyable and easy to drink, and I've had pretty much all the ones that people love to claim are "Pliny killers".

Is the craze still around for PtY or has it all gone to the haze? Last year I was able to get a pour from Mohawk Bend no problem, even got a second one after they finished their whole ticketing thing. It was all pretty chill.

I'm one of the crazies that will be near the front of the line Friday morning. Been there the past 8 years.

Like many other beers, is the best? You'll have to be the judge of that. For my palate, it is. It's simply the best TIPA I've ever had. It's quite honestly crushibly smooth. I find so many other TIPAs either too sweet, too boozy, too bitter. PtY has the perfect balance.

One of the neater aspects is the 'party atmostphere' of the brewpub on these days. It's much less a bar with 60 different tables, but rather one large event. It's really fun and really a great time.

A favorite of mine is to do elder/younger/elder back to back to back. You drink elder, it's everything you've come to know it to be. You drink younger, and it's elder to 11. Right back to elder and it tastes like water. Lots of fun!

Ha, had an Elder after Younger, and yes, it tasted like water. Didn't think to go Elder first though, just because after the wait, I want Younger to be the first thing to hit my lips.

And to add to this, Compunction (Pluot Sour) is far and away my favorite RR sour. AMAZING beer. Last batch of Hopfather wasn't as good as previous versions. Row 2 is still fantastic.

I like PTY. But no thanks on the line for opening day. Nope.

Still pretty long last year on 2017 Opening day as seen in this video:

It is much easier now to get a pour later in the week at the Brewery in the evening. Or at one of the MANY, MANY events in SF, LA, SD, Sacramento.

With the Haze craze still rolling in 2018, this will be a big test. Will the lines be gone much sooner then past years?

I might try to go to Toronado early in the day to try to get a pour, but standing in line for hours for the beer doesn't sound like fun at all.

There are plenty of HazeBros that’ll stand in line for hours for hazy ipa’s cans. Imagine if they made Younger hazy?

I heard Russian River is switching to a third-party coupon app so you can get double coupons on PtE and redeem a PtY.

They did mention they never would give in to the haze revolution. They did give in. But..... they are doing it their way. No hype....just good NE style haze.
Never say never. Look at Monks. For years the NO IPA sign was displayed. Instead of a good west coast ipa, they took the Haze Hype way. Can’t blame them. I guess you cant blame Gabe and Julian either. So the haze is here to stay. So if you don’t like it or care for all the Hype then don’t drink it. I don’t like Sours so I don’t drink sours. You don’t hear me ranting about why are Sours still around.

Isn't ranting about why the industry isn't catering entirely to your personal preferences the entire point of Beer Social Media? I might be doing this wrong...

I dont think I ever blamed BW at all, as a matter of fact I love their NE styled IPAs quite a bit and am one who was very pleased they finally took on the style, but as most know I am also a big Monkish fan as well.

    Cheers,

PtY is the best TIPA I've had. Not worth waiting hours for, but surprisingly pretty drinkable.

    Semi off topic....
Have you had Moonraker Extremist TIPA? They are releasing cans on 2/9/18. I rarely drink TIPAs anymore, but thought that one was pretty spot on.

Did well vs PTY in the Bistro blind tasting competition last Feb (SF Beer Week). http://www.sacbee.com/food-drink/appetizers/article132464854.html
