A little more malty, but still very good. I was surprised. I bought a 12 pack of cans, and had no idea of the canning date. Anyone else been pleasantly surprised with old IPA's?? Which one's were they?

    Hopslam holds up fairly well.

I aged a Heady Topper for over a year and had it side by side with a fresh one, and I liked the old one even more somehow. It wasn't oxidized or flat or stale at all. Poured crystal clear and tasted complex and lovely.

....Despite this, I still haven't had the patience to age one again. If it's in my fridge, it's getting consumed within a week most likely.

I second Hopslam; for me the honey blended better with malt over time.

Considering it used to be classified as a barleywine, it better hold up.

90 minute and Burton baton with years in them are very good. SN IPA seems to hold up well.

Too hoppy for a barley wine? It’s label an imperial red now right? Do you think that’s a better category? I’ve seen posts calling big ipas hoppy barley wines.

Not arguing either way just curious on your thoughts.

I think it's par for the course with the american barleywine style. I feel like the distinction is in the fermentables. The imperial ipa seems to include more sugar to dry it out, while american barleywine maintains an all malt grist for more body. Hog Heaven has more of an ipa feel for my palate. But that's anecdotal evidence, so you know, yeah.

How much you wanna bet they sell more Hog Heaven now labeled as a "_____ IPA" vs when it was labeled "Barleywine"?

Well of course, IPA's are the rage, but Hoppy Barleywines are disgusting.
