The 16oz can four-pack is almost the ideal format.

But here's my problem with four-packs of 16oz cans. When I buy a four-pack, I'll usually just sit and drink the first beer without thinking too much about it. Typically, it's the second can that I'll rate, experiencing it critically and picking it apart while writing my review. Then I can enjoy the third can, sort of as my reward for a job well done or, more likely, just for a job done. But that fourth can can be a chore - it's something I feel like I have to drink just to get rid of it and make room in the fridge for the next four-pack and knowing it's still there can make me feel anxious and vaguely guilty. (Interesting fact: 85% of the calories in beer are in the fourth can! That's right, if you only drink the first three cans, you will never gain weight. I forget where I read that).

OTH, and contrary to popular sentiment, I'm a big fan of the bomber format. And when I say 'big' fan, I'm referring more to physical dimensions than to any kind of enthusiasm. (Actually, in real life, I look very much like my avatar only in a tatty 3X plaid flannel shirt and a blue hat. And, of course, my penis is MUCH larger. Let's all take a moment to picture that)...

Where was I? Oh, right. So, for me, anything between 22oz and 750ml is a single serving size. MY dream format would be three-pack bombers. (Preferably delivered cold to my sofa by drone).

Anyone else? What would be your ideal beer format? Or would you be content with a mix-your-own six-pack at your local bottle shop?

I like the 12oz bottle/can. I usually have 2, so bombers are my second choice. But I'm a stout lover and when it comes to those big boys, 12oz is for me.

Plus bombers and 750s (and even pounders) are silly when compared to 12 oz. versions in a price per ounce fashion.

Of course you don't have to drink all of the last can. You can decant half of it into an 8 oz bottle.

Now I have to figure out who you are.

I don't teach anymore. At least not anything that anyone would choose to learn.

San Francisco's Burgermeister Brewing Co. had an answer for that...

Maybe I ended this thread too soon. 32 oz. cans seem pretty ideal and three of them are even better than a six pack of 12s, PLUS you get two extra beers in there FOR FREE.

Totally agree, with the vast selection out there these days, 3 or even 2 seems like a better count number than 4 or 6 (or more). Sampler packs are pretty awesome. Usually 4 kinds in 12-packs, but I have seen some great 6-pack ones out here that are just six different brews.

Brilliant! THAT'S what I've been looking for! Someone had ought to bring that back only, this time, can we call them 'pints' and fill them with something other than Burgie?

I tend to drink higher ABV beers, not because I want high ABV, it just seems that BA beers tend to be high ABV. I usually drink only one beer a session, and since I am the only drinker in the house, I prefer 12 or 16 ounce doses. At high ABV, a 12 or 16 ounce beer can be the equivalent of 2-5 "normal" 4.2% ABV 12 oz beers.

There are a lot of good beers that are available only in bombers. I do still have those in a session, but stopper it and put it in the fridge for an hour or two between glasses.

Read that again - the Burgie's are "half quart" (16 oz.) cans. Brewers tended not to call their 16 oz. cans "pints" when they were first created in the 1950s because common industry terminology for 12 oz. bottles was still "pint" and, some thought "pint" sounded small ("pint-sized" "half pint", etc) to the general public, compared to "half quart".

As for the 32 oz./quart beer can, they were around (briefly, but resurrected in recent years) but AFAIK if packed in quantity it was typically just a two-pack. :slight_frown:

Just saw that yesterday. Probably doesn't help specifically, but maybe more breweries will be doing that.

I definitely read that as "quart" and not "half-quart". Gah.

    IPAs/DIPAs 16oz/4-packs are great
    Pils/lagers - 12oz/6-packs preferably cans

For any other styles that I drink (stouts, porters, Belgians, Hefeweizens) I don’t have a preference

I prefer the four pack of 16 oz cans myself. It is probably a mental thing. Typical Friday or Saturday drinking at home, I just want two beers. Two 16 oz cans just hits the spot; I don't feel burnt out on that beer. Drinking two 12 oz cans/bottles always leaves me wanting a little more, but the third doesn't seem to wow me as much as the first two did. Plus if its a beer I found I don't care for, the "chore" of finishing three is better than finishing five.

Can, cans, cans! Hate cans, for so many reasons! Not even going to mention them all, again. Leave cans for AAL and other cheap, crappy beer. Nothing's better than 12 oz dark glass bottles 6-packs...or 4-packs.

Most days I limit myself to one beer with dinner, and twelve ounces always leaves me wanting a little more, so 16 oz. cans are perfect for me.
