Just heard from Will Gilson, former head-brewer of Moat Mtn. in Conway that he has accepted the position of head-brewer at the Crop Bistro in Stowe, VT. The new brewhouse is now being moved out of storage and into the Crop space. Will hopes to get some brews online by Christmas but knows that could be kinda ambitious. Just glad things are finally moving along to fill the gap left by the Shed's closing. There is also an mention in Seven Days, the local weekly paper: http://www.7dvt.com/2012axis-beer

Bummer, this is the first I've heard of The Shed closing. That's too bad. I imagine Crop will still keep up their nice selection of outside brews as well, no?

I was bummed when I heard the Shed was closing. A good friend grew up in the area, and in my couple visits to the Shed, it was always a laid-back departure from most of the rest of Stowe. The beer was hardly memorable, but decent for sure.

That said, I can't say how excited I am to hear that Will Gilson will be back brewing in a mountain brewpub! I've been happy to see that his old assistant brewer, Scottie Simoneau, is continuing the tradition of high quality, clean, true-to-style beers at Moat Mountain since Will Gilson left this summer. But if there was ever a man who looked like he fit the mountain-brewer part it is Will Gilson. I've only spoken with him a few times, but he seems like as good a guy as he is a brewer, and I'm so excited to try his beers again next time I'm in Stowe!

FLM - Your avatar has two of the nicest guys in NE brewing. Glad one of them will be our local brewer now!

The Crop's new brewing equipment just arrived from Germany. They hope to start brewing in December.

    From Crop's Press Release:

I'm hoping to make a trip to Stowe to check it out next year after they get some of their own beers on tap.

I liked the bar section of the shed, but the other room had all the the charm of an Olive Garden.
