Do you ever drink BEFORE work?

Yes, the only exception being this week when I tapped my first keg in my kegerator at 9:15 pm and decided "Fuck it". Otherwise it's my version of self-control.

 

perfect technicality, if you open all 6 can's at 8:59, you technically started before 9pm

 

Never, i start at 5am everyday.

 

I def will have some lunch brews when I have a low key afternoon.

 

At one time when I was MUCH younger I used to drink at work at an old fashioned gas station where we actually waited on the customer, did oil changes, light mechanical, ect. That said I was surrounded by drinkers who would drink most of the day. The Pepsi machine outside had some rather nice shelves inside it that held about 4 cases. That was back when it was not as big a deal. These days it is a whole other bird and I would never even consider it.

 

I will occasionally have a beer over lunch if there's something on tap that I really like or want to try. If it's above say 5.5%, I just get the small pour. I've done this for years.

 

I've needed liquid courage a few times to rock up to work.

Not anymore. I used to before heading to Total Wine for work but now I have a 9 to 5 job that requires me to drive to the metro station near several heavily used streets. But I still sometimes sneak one in for lunch.

 

I voted "Never" but now that I think about it I guess I do drink before work nearly every day. Technically speaking that is. I mean, I drank last nite, passed out then got up and went to work. Or does that only count if I was still drinking after midnite... Or, if the question is: Do I have beer or some other tasty adult beverage for breakfast ( thinking Bloody Mary) then go to work ??? Oh Hell no... I wouldn't be able to get anything done or at least wouldn't care to which would result in no job leading to no money and God forbid no more beer. So I guess "never" it is.. Merry Christmas to all my beer swilling brothers and sisters.

 

I agree, this thread seems a bit pointless. Either the OP likes to judge people or is trying to justify having a brew before work. Not to mention how vague the question is, drinking a single beer 4 hours before work is completely different than drinking a few higher ABV beers an hour or so before.

 

This is, in general, a pretty solid motto...

 

In high school, I worked with a construction crew one summer. Every one of the old timers kept a pint bottle of bourbon in their lunch box. A few years later I worked for Associated Pipeline digging up old pipelines, "redoping" them and covering them back up. Greensboro is a huge transit point from the Gulf to the Northeast for gasoline. We have hundreds of these huge tanks out near the airport. We would drive down to Salisbury ever morning at 5 AM. The boss was a recently returned Viet-Nam Marine helicopter pilot. He had a big Dodge Power Wagon that would go anywhere, through hedgerows, swamps, woods, actually any place he wanted it to go. He always kept a 48 qt cooler loaded with beer. The guy was utterly fearless and totally crazy.

 

I work in customer service. A little bit of vodka goes a long way, trust me. I usually have a drink or two right before I leave for work. Not enough to where I'm stumbling into work, slurring my speech but enough to put my Irish and German temper on the back burner if a customer or my boss gets mouthy with me :-D

 

Retired, but when working...... never.

 

I put rarely on there only because before I retired I had sporadic IT production support responsibilities and would sometimes get a call to login from home to fix something after I had a drink or three. And yes, having a drink at lunch used to be very common.
