My collection has a lot of old, handmade one liter mugs. This one is from ca. 1930, from a tavern that does not exist anymore. The blue colour was applied using a stencil.

Small beer stiefel (0.2l) from Herforder brewery, filled with Alpirsbacher Pils from the black forest, one of my all time favourite Pils. Standard size is 1 or 2 liter when you get-together for a beer.

Found two of these at my local Umsonstladen and was absolutely amazed. I have some nostalgia for this beer, although I never had it myself, but my father did and keeps telling me how great it was:wink: I really love those glasses though, the bottom is really very heavy, they feel great in the hand. I drank a local sour out of it, which tasted great this way. These may become my new favorite glasses for-just about anything:wink:[IMG]

It is not just you.The photos that were posted from photobucket accounts are no longer viewable (unless that person chose to pay a subscription fee). In other words photobucket used to provide a free service but they changed that (about a year or so ago).

    Cheers!

There is a beer museum in Frankemuth, MI whiich has an enormous collection of beer glasses with many (most?) of them with German brewery logos. I asked an employee there how they got all these glasses and he told me that some person owned most (all?) of the glasses but donated them upon his death (or something like that).

Lol, I think I have 10+ Küppers Kölsch Stangen of different time periods alone. 2 really cool 0.25l ones which are great when you are drinking 0.5l Kölsch bottles. I also have several Kölsch Stangen of now defunct breweries like Gereon, Garde, Kurfürsten,Ganser,Richmodis..Thing is, near cologne, you basically used to get old Kölsch glasses for free (often still this way) I Personally love the old Kölsch-Stangen 0,2l style, which are a bit shorter and wider than the ones you see today.

A couple of times, when I asked if I could buy a glass in Köln, I was just told to take it. Even when I paid for one, they were usually only one Euro.

Still is this way in most of germany (except stonemugs, which I totally understand, but those are often cheap as well).. most my glasses come from fleamarkets or umsonstläden, where they are either totally free or like 20cents or something lie that....

So, all of the glassware I -- um, procured could have been had for a simple, polite inquiry?

I'm not sure those big, burly guys with the berets and combat boots at the Oktoberfest would have been so accommodating.

I'd worry about karma if there was actual concern for the vessels -- sounds like they don't really care.

Karma was the driving factor the night I spent with a young couple outside at the Ochsen tent; talking Munich, America, and Bavarian beer.

At night's end I asked Brigitte if she and her friend would be coming back to one of the Spaten tents during the Fest. She emphatically replied yes (though her boyfriend was an Augustiner drinker). That's when I bestowed on them the 4 free Maß tickets I had left from Spaten (I was headed home the next day).

Brigitte was so thrilled that she forced (literally) her Spaten Maß on me, "I want you to have this and think of me whenever you drink from it!" I tried to explain that the mug really wasn't hers to give, but she would have no part of it. Fortunately, it was a pretty cold night and I was wearing my ski shell, so the mug fit underneath fairly well.

That Maß is still in my collection, with Brigitte's name etched on the bottom so that it shows whenever you finish the liter.

    They were tickets for Maß's?
