Today is the first day of Cellar Raid and they're starting off right with a wide array of barrel aged and other goodness.

Anyone making the trip? What are you excited to get/hope they'll bring out?

I'm planning on heading over tonight. Going off their current taplist Barrel Aged Imperial Stout is what I'm most excited about. I'm also very intrigued by the Devil Went Down to Kentucky (BA Devil Dancer). Will be interesting to see if any of this makes its way to bottling.

I’ll be up there Saturday. I agree on the BA Imperial Stout. Based on today’s list I’m also intrigued by the Boyl’R Mayk’R. I would also like to see Curmudgeon’s Better Half show up...

Any word on bottle sales? Last year they had cases of mixed vintage KBS and Bolt Cutter.

I think its too early to draw that conclusion. Not saying your wrong, but careful what you start!

The 2017 calendar also listed BA series #4 as purple!

I watched a short videocast that Founders had on facebook Tuesday night. They didn't share much in the way of what beers would be on tap. But they did share that for the first time in a very very long time, they would sell growlers of some Class 3 beers. They didn't say anything about price.

I'm want to attend on Saturday. I hope they still have BA Imperial Stout by then. Even if they don't, I'm sure there will be enough winners to choose from.

I've always wondered why they never barrel aged FIS. I'm glad they pulled it from the lineup this year. I hope its all resting down in the caverns.

I bought a 4 pack and got home only to see that the bottling date was Dec 2016, making it only a few months older than 17 KBS. Pretty misleading.

Really? I would not be happy about that. Could you post a picture here of the bottle date printing?

I'm pretty shocked at the Dec. 2016 bottling dates on KBS as well, if that is true. I would never guess they would bottle KBS at an alternate time besides the normal February run they do.

My friend also bought 2 4 packs that were dated 12/13/16. This KBS was bottled only a week before Frootwood.

Very strange! I do see on untappd that there was a 12.4% version and an 11.9% version of 2016 KBS. I feel like they have always lead KBS fans to believe it was once a year and once a year only.

I have to wonder why they do this. They only "release" KBS in March so are these bottles only for certain markets and they just sell overflow at the Taproom?

Bottling date should be meaningless for KBS. It's when the beer was brewed and put into the barrels that counts. Maybe they had leftover full 2016 barrels down in that cave and bottled them later in the year. Those beers have more time in the barrel and could be something extra special.

Founders tap list currently has 23 beers above 9% ABV!!!!

I understand that they are a top tier “craft brewer” but nonetheless this is an insane list of beers before you even consider those with a lower ABV.

I’m a bit jealous I’m not staring down this tap list right now and figuring out what to order.....

It's not necessarily the bottling date that is annoying it's the release date. Being led to believe its such a limited release and only in March. When someone references a vintage KBS it's kind of the expectation that they are all the same. Clearly not if these are bottles 9-10 months after with different abv.

What does that even mean? How does bottling some additional KBS in Dec impact the taste of the KBS which was bottled in Feb or whenever? Isn't that ultimately the point of beer after all, what it tastes like? If there were additional bottles of BCBCS released in April this year, there would be no complaining whatsoever (well except if it became tart in flavor, of course. But that's a different issue.).

They could just call it Batch 2 like Black Note and it would save us the drama haha
