Their last day of service is Sunday, Jan 28th. I’m bummed out by this since they had some great craft beer events, and an excellent happy hour. Also one of the easiest places to get BCBS variants in Philly on Black Friday. Anyone hear why they are closing?
Based on my experience I'd say it has a little to do with poor management and poor service, but I'll guess the real reason is location. Lunch and after work crowd, yes, but weekend days and nights not so much. South, which is right next door, suffers from the same issue.
Stinks, but I get it, I've been there a bunch of times and the only time it was busy it was on black friday.
Huh? Isn't "Urban Outfitters" a Gap-ish clone sort of store? What's that got to do with a "gastro-pub"? Oh, they own it. "Huh?", again. OK. So, why'd they close it? Oh, sure. Makes sense... I know I really hate that in a restaurant... "Food's great, service is great, nice beer selection...but, man, the scalability of this place SUCKS!" Gee, why'd they buy it in the first place? Well, there ya go...I know when I look for a place to eat and drink good beer, first thing I think is: "Chinese, Italian, Indian - Hey, I don't care as long as the place has "synergy" with a place that sells over-priced, pre-worn-out Chinese made - [oh, I'm sorry] - "Imported" jeans!"
That makes sense. It was always busy when I was there, but that was mostly happy hour timing. I imagine it was quite dead on Saturdays.
From the article: "A brand rep said that the concept didn’t fit into Urban’s plans for scalability and that they will be focusing on Amis, Pizzeria Vetri, and Terrain". I like their spin, "scalability", but just because they said it doesn't make it true. They're closing it because it isn't making money, end of story. Otherwise it would have been sold. That's the American way. They're focusing on Amis, Pizzeria Vetri, and Terrain because they are making money!
