I think you have to differentiate BBA from BA, significantly different. The White Oak Jai Alai was just BA whereas Dankwood is BBA.

You got me there. I didn't really read the press release (or the OP for that matter) carefully. I was even more off the mark when you consider that White Oak Jai Alai isn't even barrel aged, I'm pretty sure they use white oak staves/chips to infuse that woody flavor. Still a tasty beer regardless

AND "oak-aged" doesn't always mean barrels.

    Dear Founders,

    WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?

God forbid you do BA Sumatra Mountain Brown, Curmudgeon's Better Half, BA Imperial Stout (the one you no longer produce, would be great in barrels). Or how about a BA Barleywine. It doesn't even have to be an Imperial Stout, but something that would make sense. Old or new. There are so many styles that are great for barrel-aging. Instead you do another DIPA. :grimacing::thinking_face::disappointed

They're listening . . . They all know what we really want but choose to experiment for their own reasons. Look how long Founders kept everyone waiting for CBS. I'm sure we'll get Curmudgeon's Better Half , Sumatra Mountain and possibly things like Bolt Cutter down the road when they decide the time is right.

Agreed. Feel what couple of their BA efforts I've been fortunate to come across have been more than solid. I'd gladly grab this, thanks for putting it on my radar!

Came here to mention that this was the only ‘wood aged’ ipa I’ve ever actually liked... tried a couple bottles of Doom last year and it was okay but nothing I’d seek out again. I think an amber might hold up to it a little better... Doom was like hoppy bitterness was fighting those flavors from the barrel to me.

Every brewery on planet earth is producing barrel aged stouts and barleywines. I can visit my local bottle shop this afternoon and mix a 6 of BA stouts right off the shelf. I thought innovation, creativity, and experimentation were some of the traits we all embraced about craft brewers? But now many consumers think these breweries need to fall in line follow some sort of script. Pastry stouts and NEIPAs, amirite?

I've had BA reDankulous a couple times and it's a really great beer. I like it far better than Doom. I applaud Founders for continuing to give us a variety of BA beers and not just stouts and barleywines.

Edit to add: who is going to be the first brewery to try a barrel aged NEIPA????

Just seems odd to barrel-age IPA/DIPAs. Not very appealing to the hop heads nor very appealing to the malt heads. Kind of in between.

Looking forward to this! I really enjoyed Doom, but I prefer Redankulous over Double Trouble, so I may even like this better than Doom.

Founder's filed labels for Bolt Cutter (BA Barleywine) and Sweet Repute (BA Wheatwine) last summer. Probably a pretty good chance at least one of those makes it into the series this year.

Hang tight - there are more to come in the BA series - not like the rest are all going to be BA IPA’s.

As consumers our desire is to have exactly what we want right now. We should remember that providing breweries the space to experiment is progression. This is how our hobby/obsession of craft beer evolves and provides us new things to try.

So even when a particular style of beer gets produced and trumps our preferences, let’s be thankful that we live in a time when the art form of craft beer is profitable enough to experiment and share their experiences with us......

I guess I understand the skepticism, but for what it's worth, I've had this beer under the name of BA Redankulous and absolutely loved it. I enjoyed Brandankulous and Doom as well, but I thought this one was miles ahead of the others. I'm just hoping the bottled version is as good as the previous iterations.

For those that say they don't like their IPAs barrel-aged, I think you may be pleasantly surprised.

I'd be shocked if we didn't see Bolt Cutter. I've had Spike Cutlass which is the base beer for BC and it was terrific.

I agree with this. It's been a while since I had it, but I thought BA Redankulous was really good. I didn't like Doom or Rum and Hops Thang.

Really holding out hope that BA Sumatra makes it into the series this year, but I'll try some BA reDank for sure.

    Looking forward to this one.

I am probably in the minority, but I want fewer bourbon BAs and more just plain barrel aged beers...usually the whisky or rum flavors overwhelm the underlying beer for my tastebuds. That said a BA Sumatra thrills me in concept.

If you think about it, BBA is just wrong. Whisky companies use oak to take out fusils and bad flavors. Basically BBA just takes all those bad things and puts them into the beer “swish.”
