I am fully aware that I am about to ask a dumb question, but maybe someone can provide some useful insight...does the line at Eq move pretty well? Like if I show up at 1100 will I be in line for an hour or longer then that? I've been to Eq a bunch of times to scoop up cans, but always when there have been left overs, never a proper release.

Definitely fractal. I'd think fluctuation lasts a bit too

Smooth release today, not a huge crowd, partly I'm sure due to the brutal cold, killer bottle share with exceptional beers put out to taste. Nice meeting any of you I had a chance to meet. Didn't make it today? Come next week and join the fun!

Another really great experience at Equilibrium, they do it right. So happy with my choice to head up there instead of heading to OH this morning. Fractal Vic Secret is delicious, these guys just flat out know how to cultivate the best attributes of specific hops.

@avas I did get an opportunity at Eq this morning to try Amorphia and Peach Silhouette from HVB, and have to say I confirmed they aren't for me. They are interesting and flavorful, but I doubt I could even finish a can of either. More for everyone else I suppose!

Now when will that Eq Breakfast Stout get bottled?!

I'll second that the Fractal Vic Secret is excellent.

EQ has a stylish approach via west coast incorporation: finally digging into 4Science #2 – Aroma is full of pine, sap, lemongrass...Malt starts to show with duration, but minute with perspective. Palate is juicy with a bite/bitterness-complexity.

Lots of sticky/resinous sap in aroma as it opens, whereas palate becomes more pineapple-y and creamy

Credit to @Norexyet for assistance, since I was away

    ----
@MakersNeat as far as HVB, they like to play around, but check out their limited/refined sours-saisons

Well I waited until this morning to hit up EQ, would have gone yesterday but life got in the way. Cracked a Vic Secret this evening. Huge Pineapple, but also a nice amount of bitterness and rounded nice soft mouthfeel. Kinda curious what EQ uses as their house yeast strain, it really imparts a distinct note to their beers. I really love what EQ is doing...and I REALLY love that more often than not you can show up late in the day or the next (unlike HVB and OH) and grab beers.

Just to be fair, we were drinking Apotheosis in crowler filled y'day at HVB, so it is just as possible to get HVB beers after the release as it is to get EQ.

It's probably worth being fair to OH too (tho maybe this is not the thread for it), you can actually show up late in the day or the next day and get beers nearly every weekend. Even at the otherwise-nutso Anniversary release the 4th year's can was available to most late-comers (tho not the next day). There are also mid-week releases most weeks, which tend to stay around for a few days minimum, and plentiful growler fills.

Everything is regional now, if there's a big / exciting / special release somewhere, whether it be at OH or LIC or EQ or Sand City or Finback or Hudson Valley or wherever, there will be a crowd and there's a chance you won't get everything unless you wake up at ungodly hours. But you're usually able to grab *something*.

vulgar display of flower did not hold up well..... my can was very effervescent to the point i thought something was wrong with it... bubbles almost came out of my nose.... cans were kept cold... idk, didn't enjoy it

I work right down the block from Alewife, stoked that I'll get to try this without having to hunt.

This happened to me with a growler of Fractal Citra/Simcoe I picked up. It was like there was soap in the beer - and my growler was definitely clean - not pleasant.

Sounds like infection. I've had this occur with a Hudson Valley can before and chalked it up to some sort of refermentation/infection, but that made a bit more sense in the sour IPA can realm. I suppose it is possible, albeit unlikely, that an infection could be limited to a few contaminated cans, but a growler... that has me stumped.

So -- the retail hours posted on the website, what do they refer to exactly? Do they have a taproom of some sort open now? Is the upstairs restaurant (now "Tapped") still the only option?

I tried going back through this thread, but can't really figure it out.

(I'm going to be driving through Middletown at like 5pm tomorrow.)

The hours are for the brewery. They don't do pours, but they sell crowlers and cans. The availability is on the website and it looks like they still have cans of fractal vic secret.

If you want pours, you need to go to the restaurant.

Where did you have your growler filled? Equilibrium brewery does not fill growlers, only has pre-filled crowlers. I know that there was nothing wrong with the Fractal Citra/Simcoe cans I opened.
