Not even sure if this is the right place to post this or if it even matters to share this, but I hope I can vent here. If not, please let me know, and I'll remove it. Here's my experience with crowlers of their Bruesicles that I purchased from Bruery Terreux, canned on 01/20 and were oxidized by 01/26...

Beyond disappointed. I have always enjoyed Bruery as a craft beer fan and I had the opportunity to finally venture out to the tasting room to try their new Bruesicles that I'd heard so much about. It was busy, but the line seemed to move a bit slower than expected, but the staff was friendly. The PIPO and Rita were good enough that I wanted to buy 3 Crowlers of each - $90 in total and I was excited to share this with my friends from out of state coming soon.

I purchased my crowlers on 01/20 and on 01/26, I decided to crack open one of the PIPO open. From the initial pour and look, I could already tell something was EXTREMELY off. The light orange color was now a dark orange color, basically looking like orange juice. I thought, alright, maybe it tastes just fine. WRONG. It was oxidized for sure, tasting like wet cardboard, bitter grapefruit, and just very off. A far cry from the pineapple tart sour that I enjoyed at the tasting room.

I immediately emailed Bruery Terreux and sent a Facebook message, because oxidation for a crowler in less than a week is really weird. I kept it in perfectly refrigerated conditions and I heard no response until today, 02/02. The response I got was very inadequate...

"Thank you for your pictures and the note about your crowlers. Your message has been forwarded to our tasting room staff and will be looked into. We like to remind everyone to enjoy their crowler beers within a week, and to keep their Bruesicles well refrigerated to maintain freshness."

So not only did I wait a week to even receive a response, I'm being disregarded with a stock message about how I should "enjoy" my crowler beer within a week and refrigerated. From my message, pictures, and documentation I provided, it had been 6 days MAXIMUM from canning and to wait one ADDITIONAL week to be told "we'll look into it" is simply poor customer service to say the least.

I will no longer support Bruery after this piss poor service I've received.

To be fair we haven’t heard much response from the Offshot side from their mess with hit and miss can releases. Mostly miss.

    Hi--

I'm sorry about the very late response to your message, I'll look into what happened here.

I'm also regretful about your poor experience with the Brusicle crowlers. Every beer differs in how oxygen reacts with the beer, and in particular unfermented fruit has a high adverse reaction to oxygen. Low ABV beers are also more susceptible to the adverse reaction of oxygen. While the crowler packaging format looks like it would be more stable than a growler, it's essentially the same thing. We do flush crowlers & growlers with Co2 prior to filling as a safeguard.

I'll recommend we change our advise on crowlers to consume within 48 hours rather than a week. Your mileage will vary based on the beer.

    I'll PM you as well.

    Cheers,
    Patrick

Truly appreciate the response - I definitely would not have been as upset if my initial email/message was addressed in this manner. With the stock answer of "enjoy by a week" when it had only been 6 days, my concern felt brushed off.

Just responded to the PM. Thank you for your time, Patrick!

Not bad OP- not only did you get a response from Patrick, but the Terreux staff was friendly. Better than my experiences.

And this is why I love The Bruery! Patrick himself takes the time to reach out and help a concerned customer... a class act by a class guy! Cheers!

He should reply to the offshoot thread regarding all the complaints about his IPAs. @PMR

He already has, there's a really long post he made in there a few months back. That thread is too damn long, it's time to start a seasonal thread for Offshoot.

So he can seasonally address the same issue? If I remember correctly he defended the beers. I have never heard anyone from The Bruery/offshoot say the beer is anything other than good.
I get that it might not be good for business to say their beer sucks.

I've shipped a few bruesicles that were a few weeks old, and they were great.

Surprised that the OP had problems in 6 days.

To be clear, I don't think there's been an Offshoot beer that has been universally thought as bad. It seems like you have people who love them and people who hate them. What do you expect them to say?

I think the vast majority of people in the thread have had nothing but bad experiences with OS beers, with the exception of 2 releases. If you’re active on Instagram and see some of the offshoot posts you’ll see people have a lot of negative thoughts regarding the beers. Some have posted they’ve emailed offshoot regarding their beers tasting off and the reply they get is that is how the beer is supposed to taste. I think it’s fair to say offshoot has had some issues with their beers, yet the haven’t addressed the issues. They should stand behind their products and at least offer a reason as to these off flavors quite a few people are reporting.

But you also have to know that people with negative opinions are the most vocal. I've only had a handful of their beers but none of them have tasted off or have been drain pours. I don't pay attention to Instagram comments so admittedly I haven't seen the feedback there. But I do agree that if there are legit off flavors (and not just a case of someone not liking it), they should say something. I guess most of the negative feedback I saw was more of the "I don't like this" variety rather than the "there's something wrong with this" sort.

I respectfully disagree: Watch This was pretty much universally hated. On the other hand, I've thought about that a lot--what, exactly, do you expect them to say at this point? That they've brewed a couple dozen bad beers? Seriously curious as to what people would find an acceptable response from them.

What? No one says on social media how bad the green check, monkish, noble, bottle logic, highland park ipas are! But let’s take a look at untappd, only the highland park collaborate has a high rating, and they beer was generally agreed to be pretty good. Some are just above 4, but most are below and often in the 3.8 area, that is not good. El segundo has higher ratings and those are cheaper, I can get them anywhere, and they don’t get the haze rating boost.
I’m sure someone likes them, but that isn’t the general consensus.

I didn't say it's the general consensus. All I said is that from what I've seen, opinions have been pretty split. So far, one of their beers has been hated by everyone. And I'm not comparing them to anyone else. All I'm saying is that in general, negative opinions are typically louder than positive ones.

    OK,
Monkish is all the same and Henry has done a wonderful job tricking ppl into thinking that every IPA he makes is a new one.
Noble...shit, I don't have anything bad to say here aside from they are not my first choice but haven't had anything from them I did not enjoy.
    Bottle Logic...IPAs....hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha, that's a good one. =P
HpB...have not been fortunate enough to drink them all, but the ones I have gotten ahold of I have enjoyed quite a bit. (but given the option, I would usually drink a Timbo Pils over any IPA on a draft list)
Green Cheek...have not sought these out actually, nor visited the brewery yet, so I got nothing here.

So there, on a social media platform, 2 breweries now have a negative review of their IPAs.

As for Offshoot, I have only had 2 that were on draft at Terreux many many months ago. Obviously underwhelming since I don't even remember the names but I likely would have placed them in the same tier as BottleLogic's.
