Agreed, does not even seem like there is an argument. The base beer is from 2017, thus barrel aged 2017 Darkness.

As to Total Wine Bloomington having a purchase limit of six bottles on the Barrel Aged 2017 Darkness, I can double-verify this was the case. I was surprised enough to mutter the "six bottle limit" out loud while looking at the tag in front of the Darkness bottles.
I was able to get my allotment of bottles and also a Surly BA Darkness box at check out. Is the box worth anything?

I get why people would confuse it. The year usually refers to when it is released, not when the base beer went in. That is done more for things like lambics, saisons, and other BA beers, especially various Cuvee's I think. (Rodenbach recently released their 2015 iteration, which is called that due to it being from barrels that were filled in 2015. - Or SP's Tete, B2 is "Tete V15" for the same reason.) By comparison, Prop 17 isn't called Prop 16 (when it was filled), but 17 because that is when it was released. Derivation (although not released by year) would have a hell of a time with that naming system given that some of the blend is 3 years old, and so any 2 derivations that could at some point be released/made in the same year would have the same name (e.g. 2015 Derivation).

I understand that this is 2017 Darkness that was BA'd, therefore it is "BA 2017 Darkness." However, that's a rather idiosyncratic difference that only a surly-topical person would understand. Anyone else would guess it follows the normal naming convention, which would suggest that either BA 2017 Darkness was released in 2017, or that this should be called "BA Darkness (2018)".

I grabbed the last one at Minnehaha Lake.

Everyone I've asked has said they were/are expecting it next week, including places I called to see about their usual reservation lists, which haven't been stayed.

Grabbed one at Heritage (limit one). They still have Dare Mighty Things Citra as well.

I've gotten the run-around at all of the other local places.

"Darkness? Oh, that was released last year. Try again next year."

"Surly... Darkness...? We might have that later this week."

So many fruitless, stupid, irritating phone calls. Kill me now.

I just called France 44, which usually gets a Drekker delivery every other week on Thursday. The beer associate at France 44 said the Drekker delivery has been pushed back to next week, the 15th.
