We've been very quiet lately compared to other parts of the country. Is it because we take great beer here in the Northwest for granted? Just asking

Hey, some of us in the great NW are introverts.

Probably because hype isn't a large part of the PNW beer culture.

True. But that doen't mean we can't converse. A little.

I've noticed that we tend to go in spurts: the forum will be busy for a few days, then quiet for a few. Maybe we have enough beer that we don't need to talk every single beer/brewery up. Plus, seems like most of us have lives outside of beer. Shrug. YMMV.

I started off the year with a Dry January, so that left me without much to write about here.

February? Not so dry. Huzzah, and other comments.

My first beer after a too-damn-long January was Block 15's Secretsicle IPA, a tasty hazy confection.

Or to use a popular NW forum idiom:

    Dry January:
Tough to do in a city that's
    Known to be quite wet.

Non-stop beer, perfect weather, no Californians , and lots of bikinis?

My Superbowl watching (and often times snoring) beer, from a crowler picked up a GG. I agree, quite tasty.

Have been a fairly active member in the NW forum for roughly 15 years now, and it's always been this way. At least in comparison to other parts of the country.

I've always felt that what other parts of the country are excited about and gush over, is all just part of the normal scene in the NW. As a result, I think it's very easy to take the craft beer scene for granted in the NW, and consequently there's often little to talk about or discuss. Or at least that's how it often appears to the folks living here I think.

Also, in other parts of the country, special events and tap takeovers are almost always posted in the regional forums (as it tends to be a big deal that a lot of folks in the area will want to attend and talk about). However, there are so many "events" in the NW, and tap take overs are so common out here, that you almost never see them mentioned or posted in the forum. For example, Imperial just had their outstanding annual Heart of Darkness BA stout fest this past weekend, and last night Belmont Station put on what looked like a killer Barley Brown line-up for their tap takeover. However, there was no mention of either event in the NW forum. I'm fairly certain both events would have been big news, and discussed ad nauseum, in other parts of the country.

The bar is actually closed for a remodel this week. I'm pretty sure they were just testing their taphunter/twitter integration yesterday in preparation for launching a new website.

That's weird. I get daily notification updates around town, and the notification suggested that all the beers had just recently been put on.

That being said, now that you mention it, I do recall that the latest email newsletter did mention an upcoming closing for remodeling (just the bar side as I recall). Didn't recall the dates though...

What prompted this was when I was perusing the Pacific Forum I couldn't help but notice how busy it was compared to the Northwest Forum. I didn't want John to get bored ...

You forget, I'm married now Larry.

My wife does a most excellent job of making sure I never have time to be bored any more.

THIS. So much this. I don't check the regional forums with any regularity, so, I'm just guessing here: it seems that not only is our "scene" more mature than a lot of parts of the country (we've got a ton of breweries that are 20+ years old, and even more that are 10+), we, The Regulars, at this virtual bar, aren't exactly new (overall) either.

I think a lot of the chatter on the mainpage and,( by extension) the other regional pages are likely a younger group than we are. Having met a bunch of y'all, we do tend to have more "experience" than what I pick up when I do look at the other pages. Such is life. Youth and enthusiasm are wonderful things (I remember when I had both), but, an old quote; "Old age and treacherousy will win out over youth and enthusiasm every time".

Also, to quote the NW Forum: Shrug. YMMV.

As always, I think I can speak for most folks when I say that we greatly appreciate your insightful comments and input.

I think it speaks volumes that you would go to the time and trouble of posting such a brilliant repartee. Well played sir.

I believe me laughing at the thread says it all. It's doesn't come off one bit as pretentious or conceited.
