That sucks. Always hate to lose beer.

They started getting reports of off-flavors in January for a beer bottled in November - not exactly past what most consider "fresh" especially for a stout. Doesn't seem like that was the problem at all:

That sucks. I had two bottles, and thought it was great. I saw it on sale for $12.99 a couple days ago, and almost got another. May have to get one today, lol.

That’s exactly right. When I first read it, I thought it was referring to an earlier batch, like from November of 2016. If fact, I’m pretty sure I have a Baptista from ‘16 in the cellar, guess I’ll need to crack it soon and see if those aforementioned “off flavors” are present.

Isn't the buttery off flavor they're describing indicative of diacetyl, which inevitably gets worse over time? I know sometimes it can clear out in wild beers, but with a clean beer it's only going to get worse, or am I missing something?

Diacetyl can be cleaned up by aging a beer. But diacetyl can also be indicative of an unintended infection.

Shipyard better recall every beer they've ever made...

Popping in here since I didn't see a thread anywhere else for this. I submitted an e-mail per the website instructions for my bottle and I got a reply back from Epic stating that they can't ship beer back to me. I have my choice of a check for each bottle I have (as long as I provide photographic proof) or some swag including a T-shirt and a few other things that would come out to about twice the amount of the check.

Has anyone else gone down this route yet? I'm tempted by the merch offer but I'm curious if it's actually quality stuff and not just some shirt with an ironed on decal type of thing.

I contacted them for a refund. they got right back to me. I had three bottles and took the refund. I don't need another beer tshirt, glass etc. Heard from them the beginning of this week that my check would be mailed in 5 to 10 days. Can't complain about the way they handled it.
Good news is my area got another drop of Baptista. Going to try and grab a bottle or two on the way home.

I hope kegs aren't affected. The store I frequent has a couple of them for consumption soon and for craft beer week.

Just in case anyone is still debating between check and merch, I ended up going the merchandise route. Here's what is all came in the package about a week and a half back for me for one bottle:

Those 2 butt plugs are worth the price of the bottle alone. Don’t need any of the other garbage they gave you.

Nice. I was wondering what those were. That shirt looks pretty cool, as long as they have it in my size. :sunglasses: :stuck_out_tongue:
