I read all butthe last 8 comments or so.

I am genuinely surprised no one mentioned that they obviously care about #madprofits, considering the comment the director of sales made. Something to the effect of "If someone wanted to take out a mortgage on their house and buy the entire stock, I'd grab the forklift and help them load it into their semi." This was in relation to a comment about consumers getting frustrated when they would wait in line at the brewery and it would sell out.

    Amazing.

Its obviously a cash grab / mad profitzz type situation. They have always charged a few dollars more at the brewery on release day vs. what it costs in distribution and they are banking on everyone driving to the brewery. It will backfire on them, they will sell a tiny fraction of what they expect, and it will hit distribution anyways.

I for sure noticed the comments about THIS strategy being relayed to mad profits. I was alluding to their business ideals overall. If you're not going to put ANY limit on a release, then I hope your business goes up in flames. You should always be a limit even if obscene (like 10 cases of Backwoods, or whatever Founders did). That prevents any numb nuts from getting the idea that they should try to purchase it all and hock it all.

A case in point: when you set a limit (especially an obscene one) on something that is not crazy hyped, people frequently will not seek that limit. They'll go for whatever they want. But, alternatively, when there is no limit, some people just see $$$.

As a brewery, if you want to fuck over anyone that would actually wait in line for a release that you can find in stores, you should make every effort to ensure everyone gets an appropriate amount. If you don't care, fuck you and your business practices.

We aren't even talking about a limited release in the sense that BC variants are. We're talking about something that sees wide distro.

    Shitty.

Heres the direct quote for reference. I agree unbelievably shitty. "Protecting the brand" by selling it all to one person if they could. Makes sense.

"If the first guy in line wanted to buy the whole supply and take a mortgage out on his house, I would shake his hand and help him load up his semi truck," John Stewart, Perrin's director of brewing operations told me last year."

I don't quite understand this. I still like no rules, it's maybe not quite as good as it was the first year, but it's close...they've been pretty consistent with it. BUT, this is the only beer that has been consistent for them.

Just my opinion, but everything else they've produced has gotten progressively worse every year. I used to love their grapefruit IPA, and it's been a complete drain-pour for me the last couple times i've had it...so i'm really not sure what they're up to over there.

With all that said, what positive outcome could possibly come from alienating your distribution sources? A retailer above mentioned why they should be interested in pushing their core brand, and they shouldn't...if Perrin is going to pull their brand in for brewery only distro, then forget em, push someone else, we're spoiled with all the beer we have here in West Michigan.

Don't get this, won't chase it, hope they have pallets taking up space for the next year.

It's a shelf turd in Cincinnati. I didn't really care for it. I bought two bottles in 2016 and am not really looking forward to drinking the other.

My word should mean absolutely nothing, so feel free to take this as baseless rumor. The guy who orders at my local place tells me he's already been told to expect distribution as normal, regardless of what's being said publicly now.

Little does he know I plan on winning the lottery and showing up to buy the whole supply. No additional mortgage needed.

I had one from first release and enjoyed it, had the most recent release and thought it was so ridiculously sweet. Bought another bottle when it hit Chicago distro and immediately regretted the purchase, traded it away. I appreciate Perrins choice to help me avoid impulse purchases in the future.

I honestly thought this is what was going to happen. They'll hype the release at the brewery and let people line-up, but they will be way smarter about when they release it to distro. Maybe wait a couple months so they can claim they are just clearing out old stock that didn't sell, wink, wink.

You thought the photos of people dropping their DLD 4 pack was hilarious, wait until someone gets a picture of a flipped over whale hauler....

I'm going to open a business that makes 2-bottle holder Yeti-type coolers made for slugging on your shoulder. They will be called Whale Hauler's.

Customization possible with the hair from your neckbeard or that of your friends.

I'm making an after-market adapter that allows it to attach to your grandmother's walker because no true whale hunter rolls without elderly mules.

I recommend making it customization - able to be fitted to walkers, rolling walkers, wheel chair's, or oxygen tanks.

This is the kind of beer where the first few ounces are good, and then you have to choke the rest down.

Comments on their FB page indicate that suspending distribution may not be a popular decision. I honestly didn't realize there are that many rabid fans of this beer.

The amusing thing to me about this decision is the belief that they believe there are enough beer nerds that would be willing to drive there to even make the backlash worth it (from consumers, shops, etc.). I mean - you have to REALLY like a beer to travel for it, right? Do they really believe THAT many people are willing to drive to get this? It's not like they are in a city like Chicago where such a decision might make more sense.

I always think decisions like these are made by whomever has the final say. -Because, surely if anyone else had raised this as an Idea, there's be at least one beer nerd in the conversation to say "uhh, guys, maybe not the best idea."

Classic Perrin. They sucked me in once to their Nuclear No Rules Party, thinking I'd be able to get a few pours of this uber limited version of No Rules.

When I get there I find out that only those who win a raffle get a chance to BUY a 6oz pour (for like $10). And that the raffle was going to be "some time in the evening". Yeah, thanks Perrin, I'm out.
