As a barrel aged stout fanatic I believe BCBS and BCBCS were pioneers and deserve recognition for their role in introducing and elevating the barrel aged stout as a style, however I was curious if they still stand up to some of the newer barrel aging programs, specifically stouts from Prairie, Cycle, Bottle Logic, Jackie O's, Fremont, Mikkeller, Evil Twin, and to a lesser degree 3F, Perennial, and TG & Voodoo, as they produce such a limited amount. Other larger (semi-corporate, corporate) programs I think deserve inclusion are FW, Founders, Alesmith, CC, Bells and The Bruery (king of the thin thin stout). Is Goose Island still king, or is there another that has taken the crown?

I love BBS and I don’t recognize half the names here. Why does just one have to be the best? Even an average BBS I think is great!

I'm trying to figure this one out. You consider Black Tuesday thin?

Black Tuesday may not be as "full" in the mouth the last few years, but "thin?" And lumping so many distinctly different breweries into one category, I guess I'll vote here.

Basically, there's no "King" we're in an era of glorious chaos. Goose Island (OG), yes. But no one rooster rules the roost. So much good BA stouts nowadays.

OP, these are all important BA programs....important to the respective brewery's bottom line. <rimshot>

Fremont has taken barrel aging to another level. I think Avery and Epic both deserve a nod as well.

BCBS is the most "corporate" option you list, not Founder's, Alesmith, Bell's, The Bruery, etc. Who owns who? In fact, even the corporate folks at Goose Island have failed to deliver consistency out of the barrel the past few years, and while they may have contributed to an up-rising in BA beers initially, I'd consider them far and wide from the leaders at this point. Consistency over the past few years playing a large part in their failure to maintain their lead, or even a meaningful presence in the front pack.

Semantics aside, I'd consider Prairie a leader in the barrel aging side of beer, and a bit surprised Avery hasn't been mentioned. They consistently produce Tweak and Uncle Jacob's Stout with a precision worthy of a NASA approval.

Avery is one of the few breweries putting out BA beers that are undoubtedly consistent. No hype, just damn good quality control and attention to detail.

I have one Fremont beer in my cellar, and for better or worse, it's one of my prizes. I look forward to seeing how it drinks, as I've heard nothing bu

Too many to list and some BA stouts are difficult to obtain. I'm surprised you didn't list Avery.

I really wish more people could have easier access to Jackie O’s. There’s some intangible, extremely gratifying element to many of their BA offerings (kinda like umami is to food), but it’s an explosive depth, almost a textural taste, and always just straight up delicious. Very, very consistently great stuff from a small little college town in an underrated state.

I feel like the poll is somewhat flawed, not by who it includes but who it doesn't. Before looking I was gonna say FW or Eclipse off the top of my head

I are confuse, so very confuse. Thread title is, ahem, "Most Important". Yeah, good luck defining that Brofessor. Yet, the poll is "King Of"? Even better luck with that Sir Gawain. Fight for your Fair Maiden.

Oh, BTW, I voted for the only brewery on the list I've never heard of. Don;t understand why there wasn't a NOTA choice.
