Cartoon brewing unjunct stout. Jet black color, slightly under average carbonation, thick creamy feel. Aroma is malt, raisins, roasted malt, coffee and cocoa. Taste follows aroma exactly,a little dry,a little bitter,a touch of sweetness. A really great old school tasting stout[IMG]

The flavor is nice but the mouthfeel really detracts. I'll probably lower the overall score before I finish iti t got this on the recommendation of one of the beer managers down here. Worth a try, but not outstanding. If they put their IPA in cans (outside of a mix pack), I'd drink a lot of it during the summer.

Greetings fellow NBSers, many thanks to @cjgiant for getting this off and running!

My travel luck with beer has been good thus far (knocks on wood). Like many others I typically carry a roll of bubble wrap and some storage ziplocks anytime I catch a plane these days. Hoping that my luck continues the current trend.

First contribution today is new to both BA and myself. Seven Stills can release no. 006. A coffee porter titled Fluxuate. Very nice visually, but lacking in lacing. Nose and taste are nearly one dimensional roasted attributes, both coffee and malt. I think some chocolate malt would've been a nice addition and made this beer multi-dimensional. It's higher on the carbonation than I'd prefer, keeping it from a nice creamy mouthfeel. I'll see how it evolves as I grabbed a couple cans. That said, for a recurring stock of my beer fridge I'd likely opt for Fremont Stone Squirrel or Anchor Coffee Porter over this, given the price point. Overall rating link, BA Score = 4.05

As juniors in high school, we went on the annual beach weekend to Ocean Drive, S.C. This fateful year, we tilted towards Atlantic Beach, S.C., with its red-dotted liquor store as our goal. These really were the old segregated days, black area, white area. This place was friendly. I had my brother's expired drivers license, no picture, and we bought every type distillate there. We had brought along many cases of Schlitz. Anyway, my best friend in his fairly new Mustang pulls us across the street to get gas. These are the old days when attendants would come to your car to provide service. The South Carolina Highway patrolman came to my friend's window, and damned
if Steve didn't ask him to fill it with regular...The trooper fell down laughing and told us to be on our way...

Look- dark brown with fizzy tan head that fades away to almost nothing. Spotty lacing

Aroma- Raisins, figs, burnt sugar, bubblegum

Taste- follows nose very closely, with a little booze at the end

Feel- light to medium bodied, a lot of carbonation

Overall- a very enjoyable and complex beer

It was- I think- 50 litre kegs. We could barely handle finding couplers as it was. Casks in transport I learned is very tough indeed.

Great story, the old days right. We used to drive around town with a keg in the back seat of my car with 6/7 friends stuffed in. Man those were the days even if you got caught they just sent you home with a warning to stay home.

One more entry while catching up on some classwork now that the kids are in bed, it's a bit challenging working on a thesis statement with brothers(5 and 9 year olds) that have been wanting to argue most of the day.
Monday Night has been a middle of the road brewery for me, I'll have one occasionally but they have yet to crack my regular rotation. Over the past few months they have been releasing some pretty decent brews.

Pours a hazy golden hue with a big fluffy white head.
Smell is citrus, predominantly lemon lime, some melon, wine grapes.
Taste is much the same with the lemon lime up front, sweet cantaloupe.
Light to medium bodied, dry finish with a bit of winelike aftertaste.
Overall an above average offering from Monday Night, it would definitely be a refreshing lawn or pool beer in the summer.

Wow!!! A busy thread. Hello Late Night NBS!!!
I guess the NBS BIF Train is a ROLLING!!!

Not much to report here. It got friggin hot this week. Finally cooled down, and....and, we may get some rain tomorrow. <Fingers crossed>
Wanna shout out a thanks to my Georgia Beer Travel Consultant @JBowenGeorgia
My brother got sent to Augusta for 2 weeks of training with his company, and John made a great recommendation... Athens & Creature Comforts. My brother talked a coworker into absconding with one of the rental cars, shot over, and had some delicious brews. He was very impressed. Much appreciated John.
As for beer, I'm loving this one from Modern Times (You'll try this soon, John!!!)

Golden orange to peach in hue. Hazy with a swirl of white fluff that retreats to a milky white ring. Mild lacing.
Smell is quite inviting. Some bright citrus notes, hint of dank, almost prickly and pithy grapefruit zest and a tad of cattiness that gives some complexity, but interestingly, does not scare me off. Comes back to a juicy orange puree sweet note.
Taste is both juicy in citrus, dank in a slightly dry way that retreats slowly, and a blend of mango and peach even peeks in. There's also a slightly biscuity malt sweetness.
Feel is a little less "hazy" than I was hoping.
Overall, a tasty NEIPA but I'd like a tad more of that oats mouthfeel.

I've actually passed this one over in the past. It'll be a semi-regular in my fridge going forward.

Glad he enjoyed it, hopefully they had a good draft list while he was there. I know they have been offering some of the limited bottles for onsite consumption.

Reclaimed Rye with coffee, Wheeler's Drum oatmeal stout, Koko Buni, and of course he enjoyed Tropicalia. And he mentioned Duende...I'm jealous.

    PS. What's your thesis on?

I'm writing on the need for reentry programs that would help reduce the recidivism rate of inmates, help them succeed as productive members of society, and reduce the tax burden of incarceration.
I know it's not a hot topic for a heated debate but one I feel needs to be addressed.

Recidivism is a major issue. I have heard from people on all sides of the political spectrum who have voiced some serious interest in the complexities of this.

Trying not to stray too far from NBS but I know here in GA the rate is a little over 30%, closer to 50 if you count technical violations of parole/probation. It costs around $21K per year to keep someone in prison, if you count the average 20,000 releases per year it gets costly.
Education, housing placement, and training trade skills would be a much cheaper alternative.

So, just got home from Doc Ponds here in Stowe. Went to see a band play 'til 11PM, and then, at about 11:15, The Wailers showed up. You know, as in Bob Marley and. They had a gig (from 6-9PM) up the road at Spruce Peak Performing Arts Center tonight. Earlier in the day, a local girl showed up at the store who works as liaison between the venue and the bands. She asked for a $15-20 bottle of Cabernet. She bought four for the band and then asked me where she could take them after their show. I told her that Doc's had the only live music on a Sunday night in town, never thinking they would actually show up. The younger guys in the band showed (Aston Barret, Jr., Josh Barret) and one of their bandmates DJ'ed on the bar's two turntables, did a fantastic job, and a great time was had by all!

Never miss a Sunday show at Doc Ponds!

    12 oz. can.
Moderate to vigorous pour yields a 1.5 inch creamy white head over a light golden body with some sticky lacing. Nose of coconut, citrus, and tropical fruit. Taste of more coconut with less tropical fruit and citrus. Nice feel and overall, well, it's just me. I've tried a few coconut IPAs and I'm not really a fan. Cheers!

NBS entry numero dos. FW Nitro Merlin. One of my favorite oatmeal stouts with nitro, F'n sign me up! A visual marvel on the pour, so perfect. Limited lacing is my only knock on the beer from the eye's perspective. Nose is nice but subtle, competing sweetness from the lactose and roasted attributes from the malt. Loved it, just wished it was more dynamic. Taste is similar to the nose, but perhaps even less dynamic. Mouthfeel is great, very creamy. Complete review link, BA score = 4.21, rdev +2.4%

FW is really hitting some solid options right now, from Mocha Merlin, Nitro Merlin, and Wookus, they are definitely getting plenty of my $ right now. Hoping to sneak in one more contribution after I walk the pooches.
