Happy Mardi Gras, fellow kissers of the hops.

Started off with a Platform Pushin' Pedals, a lemon lime shandy that was a one time offering in support of Ohio bike riding nonprofits. Not sure if it was appropriate to enter a past one off into their offerings but, welp there it is now. Not bad, like a slightly less interesting DFH SeaQuench. Followed that with an Avery Liliko'i Kepolo, which isn't a bad follow up. But now comes a slow sipping end of the evening with a 2016 Backwoods Bastard.

Good evening BA, hope everyone had a good Tuesday. Another pretty mellow work day once again, all my meetings got cancelled. Listened to Pandora all day again. Found a couple more metal bands I've never heard of.

    Today's reviews:

Excellent gose. Great head retention/lacing for the style. Aromas and flavors of big tart/tangy blueberries, fruit skin, lemon, lime, green apple, red grape, sea salt, coriander, herbal, and grass; with moderate wheat, cracker, white bread dough malts; mild lacto funk and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tartness, fruit tang, and light spiciness on the finish. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; balanced bready/grainy wheat creaminess, fruit tang, and lactic acid in the mouthfeel; some salinity and light stickiness. Light-moderate increasing acidic/tangy fruit dryness, no pucker. Very flavorful/refreshing, 4.5%. Great between Lacto, fruit, salt, and pale/wheat malts; no overly salty or lactic. Spot on stuff. 4

Awesome English brown. Great head retention/lacing on the glass. Aromas and flavors of big hazelnuts, caramel, brown sugar, and toasted brown bread; with lighter notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toffee, vanilla, dark fruit, and herbal/grassy hops. Mild herbal/grassy hop and roast bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation/body; really nice creamy/bready/grainy malt mouthfeel; light sticky hops and chalky roast. Lightly increasing lingering bitter dryness. Extremely smooth and drinkable, 5.5%. Really spot on brown. Nicely rich dark/bready malt complexity with balanced hazelnut flavors; mild earthy hop balance against sweetness. Not overly roasty. Really well executed all around. Not overdone on any aspect. 4.1

Hazed and Amused. This was awesome! Amazing lasting head retention and thick soapy lacing on the glass. Aromas and flavors of big tangerine, lemon, grapefruit, peach, pear, pineapple, passion fruit, white grape, mango, melon, guava, berry, citrus zest/peel, and light pepper/pine hops; with moderate wheat, biscuit, light honeyed malt balance; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel, herbal, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation/body; balanced creamy/bready malts and sticky hops in the mouthfeel. Light resins/rinds, light-moderate increasing bitter dryness, no hop astringency. Very easy drinking, never aggressive, 5.5%. Really awesome balance of juicy/dank hop complexity; nice bready malt backbone, with minimal residual sweetness. My can says Simcoe and Hallertau Blanc on the bottom. Awesome hop showcase of both. 4.13

Scotch ale in Crown Royal rye barrel. Fall 2016 bottling. 3 hour boil and 6 months barrels. This was excellent. Minimal head retention/lacing on the glass. Aromas and flavors of big raisin, plum, cherry, fig, pear, red apple yeast; with balanced caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, toffee, rye whiskey, toasted oak, and brown bread; with lighter notes of coconut, chocolate, cocoa, herbal, grass, leather, and yeast earthiness. Mild herbal bitterness and rye whisky/oak spiciness on the finish. Light carbonation and medium-plus body; very creamy/silky malt/barrel mouthfeel. Minimal sticky hop, chalky roast, oak tannins, or dryness. Dangerously smooth sipping, minimal warming 10.5%, zero barrel booze. The body was a bit thin, but the silky barrel character made up for it. Really well balanced fruity yeast and dark/bready malt complexity; with outstanding barrel presence and integration. Really delicious and well executed. Not overwhelming on any aspect. 4

Been really digging this band since I found them last week. Symphonic Black metal has really been my jam more recently.
