I love Portillo's. I bless the ground it's built on in BP. But the amazing thing about Chicago is there are so many places to buy great italian beef sandwiches, from restaurants to street carts, starting with the Billy Goat Tavern, conveniently located in a O'Hare Airport food court.

There's a lot of shitty beefs, too. There are places where the beef slices start to crumble apart, or the juice sucks, or use bell peppers instead of giardiniera, or the bread's too hard. Portillos is surprisingly good despite the fact that it's a chain. My favorite is still Johnnie's Beef in Elmwood Park. Skip the combo and just get two beefs juicy hot, some fries, and an ice. So damn good.

#italianbeefadvocate?? Never would’ve thought that would happen in a Pacific thread. I guess the Monkish thread can make crazy things hapen.

Dude, there was some dumbass clickbait listicle article on FB a couple of days ago listing the worst foods in each state and Chicago dogs was their choice for Illinois. Fucking dumb. I knew I should have stopped at California when they listed In n Out. I'm no fan of In n Out, but, c'mon, In n Out isn't gross or anything.

I'm a transplant from Chicago so I couldn't help myself.
I miss Chicago hot dogs, but if I had to pick one, I'd take a Polish.

Is that rhetorical? Coincidentally, I had a Double Double animal style yesterday. I'm trying to limit my meat consumption these days, but sometimes I can't resist the call of In n Out.

Is that the next Monkish Omnipollo collab?

They are building an Innie across the street from my house. It's not quite as good as living next door to Monkish and being able watch their line shenanigans on the daily, but In and Out lineups get pretty hairy, too.

An "innie"?! Please tell me that's not a thing...

You would think that all of their cash has been spent already this week. Like squeezing blood from a high interest rate "emergency" credit card.

Even if I don’t want to deal with getting cans, I feel like I have to swing by for a can release while I’m in town just to see this crowd everyone talks about on here. I’m very intrigued.

OK, it's not Italian Beef sammies or a great charcoal broiled burger but this little baby is pretty damn tasty, once again I love that Henry is tossing in lot's of Eldo in these new recipes.

    Cheers,

Here is what I did ...
Got there on a Sunday right around opening. Sat around and drank 4-5 beers. When the food truck opened, had some lunch as well.
It was quiet for an hour, slowly started filling up, and pretty much swamped and crowded by 3. I think the lines for pours at that point were 15+minutes
I cannot imagine how crowded it is for a can release, but I would just say plan to get there at opening or half an hour prior to opening on a day you can get away, and if there is a can release go for it. If not, have some beer and fill the growlers. Really interested in your take on Monkish. I put Boss Tweed right up there with Monkish, with Monkish maybe just a litter better mouthfeel.

I am stoked that I will be getting a four pack of each courtesy of my good friends ITB via Brooklyn NY.
