    This is completely true.

What really sucks is that they used to be the exact opposite. They're now chasing trends really hard, while at the same time bleeding credibility from those that made them the arbiter of style that they once were.

It was an eye opener for us too. We one year launched the Mild in May campaign in a pub which was having a curry night so we availed ourselves of it.
We found it went so well that we laughed about it. We had previously gone down the path of trying IPA because of the India connections but came to realise that IPA is the worst choice for a curry.

If anyone in the UK is paying attention Harvey's Sussex Best Bitter is not bad at best, while the Dark Mild is utterly tasteless.

When a brewery gets over a certain size (about 10 barrel capacity) the brewing is largely done by machinery.Perhaps the spent grain is shovelled out by hand, that's all,
Craft beer is no more lovingly made than any other. Micro lagers are not pristine because nobody cares about them.

Adjunct is a specific brewing word and denotes a substance used for a particular purpose. If it is used to describe just anything thrown into the mash then how do you describe materials which use the enzymes from the malt to provide fermentable sugars?
American Adjunct Lager arose because without adjuncts such as corn or rice, American barley was unsuitable for beer making.
It is like calling a screwdriver a hammer because both are used to put bits of metal into wood.
There is so much beer material written by people who never check their work for accuracy or perhaps even realise it is a good idea to do so.
Ignorance is not an excuse simply because other people do it.

Just thought of another one after scanning the front page of Beer Talk threads.

Can’t stand the use of “program”. Barrel aged program, sour program etc. There’s a handful of breweries where it may make sense. But when it’s some guy talking about the new tiny brewery that opened near him (that’s producing “world class” beers no doubt), when we start talking about their programs (ie the 5 barrels sitting in the garage) I just can’t hack it.

    I like Weihenstephan's "lager program".

I don't care for sours myself but am sure retailers love them. They sell well and are pricey what's not to love?

I have not, and will not buy any "Session" beer. I don't see the point.

Scotch Ales are one of my favorite styles and don't think they get enough love.

They take a lot of flack, but Black IPA's are great.

It's not the beer at all. It's society. Just look at the overall culinary landscape in the US and Canada. Are there lots of executive chefs that are of color? How about the demographics of people that frequent restaurants that aren't chains?

Saying "Why do so many white men like beer?" is like saying, "Why do so many people in India love cricket?" or "Why are so many people in South America catholic?".

Barrel aging often results in a beer that tastes like crap when compared to the base beer.

Can totally get behind this. When I used to live in Brooklyn, before I had a kid, the amount of stroller brigade parents who thought their child was the most important person in the bar, and had to be catered to as such... was just staggering. One time at Mission Dolores... not sure if it's still around... there were so many children there that it felt like I was at a Chuck-E-Cheese birthday party, not an adult bar.

    Barleywine is not life.

Regular milk stouts are mostly thin and overrated.

    And

No, I don't want your dog smelling me in the brewery. You could have left him home to be honest.

You know what pairs well with food? Wine. You know why? Acidity. Something most beer doesn't have and the ones that do have the wrong kind.

Still there. Generally it’s ok. If there are kids it’s the occasional sleeping baby with the wiped out-looking parents nursing a beer. Haven’t seen kids running around for a while. That crew probably mostly at threes brewing these days (which I’m guessing opened after you left) - it’s only a couple blocks north on the other side of 4th av

The people who complain about beer prices on boards like this are doing it wrong.
