I've had many canned ones while in Japan, but I don't think I've ever seen a Happoshu in the US. Not sure they're distributed here.

I would never consider Coedo's Beniaka as a happoshu (it's a pumpkin beer), but BA considers it one. That is actually distributed in the US. I see at Uwajimaya sometimes.

Am looking forward to trying it today. I'm a big fan of the style anyway, plus I want to try their rum porter.

This will be my first visit to the tasting room and I'm pretty excited about it.

    And justifiably so.

Make sure you check out the Bear Den. It's a gift shop/taproom off to the right of the bar. I think they have all the current pFriem bottles there, including the Rum Barrel Porter.

If you or someone in your group tries the sherry-barrel-aged tripel, let me know what you think. I didn't get around to trying it, and the combo sounds intriguing to me.

Unfortunately, they just ran out of the porter. Am not in love with the Belgian stout, but everything else is excellent. The raunchbier and the cognac ba dark are my favorites.

As for the tripel, it's a well made, intriguig beer. I wouldn't think sherry flavors would go well with anything, but of all things it works well with the tripel.

Fresh mosaic pale from the source is a thing of beauty.

They still have bottles of the porter, so I'll probably grab one of those to go.

For some reason their BA impy stout doesn't do it for me. It's a good, well made stout, but there are versions I like more from the NW. Plus, I'm addicted to the ba stouts from Fremont (and I have an ocean of kds and bbomb stuff in the beer fridge right now).

So, couldn't resist. I went and grabbed a bottle of the porter and just shared it with the bar. So what does the bartender do? Gifts me a bottle of the porter to go.

    This place is awesome!!!

That was my reaction to their scotch barrel-aged imperial brown from last year. I liked it so much more than I thought I would.

And wahey, they had bottles of the scotch barrel-aged imperial brown in the cooler, so I brought one home. For science. And because Mrs. Vurt said "Get some!"

different strokes... i'm typically a fremont homer, but have been more enamored of late by the Holy Mountain and pFriem stouts of the world. the dark chocolate taste, lighter body, and lacing head was an amazing combination of simplicity. as you said, well made.

i picked up a bottle of that, too :grinning: i could drop a lot of money i don't have in those coolers.

A bar close to me had it on last week and it was really good. The smokiness was a little more subtle than last year's version

Went to the Specialty Beer Store in my town yesterday to spend a gift card. Grabbed bottles of Pfriem Citrus zest IPA, Mosaic Pale, and Bosbessen. Grabbed a 10oz pour of the Rum Barrel Porter. Very good brew. The rum had the forefront, but didn't overwhelm the beer. A job well done.

Had a friend at Pfriem for their 4 course meal today and he also could not stop raving about the Rauchbier. Definitely going to have to keep my eyes peeled for that one. I want to see if it lives up to how amazing Heater Allen's Rauchbier was this year.

Finally tried the Triple IPA. Doesn’t get much better than that for triples. In fact, I’d put Pfriem’s line up of IPA, IIPA and IIIPA up against Blind Pig, Pliny the E and Pliny the Y any day of the week.

Side note, I still think it’s weird the only place I’ve seen bottles of their Double is at Costco. Did they just do a one off for them? It wasn’t on their release calendar either. Portland was swimming with bottles of it this time last year. Actually New Seasons had so much I still saw bottles dated from January on the shelves as late as June.

While I love most everything from pFriem, and haven't had the TIPA yet, for my palate and preferences I'd struggle to support your statement. Add in Row 2 Hill 56 pale ale, and there's no way for my preferences. YMMV

Not 100%, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't specifically produced for Costco and/or exclusive. I'd love it if someone at Corporate or the regional office was able to put together programs like that, though.

To each his own. For the record, I love most of RR’s line up. Been to the brewpub and Pliny at the source is a beautiful thing. I know a lot of people like to downplay their greatness nowadays. Just feel that Pfriem as well as many others have caught up.

The helles rauchbeir is my top beer of 2018 as of now. I do have a keg of it pouring at my house currently. They always kill it generally very rarely disappointed with their beers.
