I believe in no such things as drain pours. No beer is a drain pour. Yes some taste like I want to dump it down the drain but being that I'm a man I drink it and finish it. I might not enjoy it but if I paid for it I'm drinking it, just won't buy it again. People drain pouring beer have got to be the biggest douchebags in the beer world.

Also another group of people that I have noticed at breweries and can't tolerate are those who leave beer in their glass. Drink up, don't leave any drops behind.

I quoted and bolded the last part of my post, because I think we're all in agreement here. To truly experience all the complexity of a beverage, you ideally need more than a small sample. But sometimes there's obvious restrictions.

Agreed (well, I don't drink a lot of wine, but I agree with the premise overall)...see my post above.

    This is a good point.

The jury is out on whether or not I should be proud of starting this topic or ashamed.

Actually, this thread has made me feel good because like 1/2 of the things on here I agreed with (especially all of the shelf beer talk) but wouldn't post on a beer forum. It's like if I drove a 1992 ford fiesta I wouldn't go to some supercars forum and post about all 60 of my sick horse power.

Most of the people dry-hopping pilsners didn't have a perfect pilsner to mess with in the first place.

So when your taste is compromised and you are a bit drunk is when you can identify complexity? That's silly. It can be assessed in other ways and it is, universally so among people not just slugging back bottles of wine.

Be proud. Yes @EvenMoreJesus has definitely got his money's worth, but lots of separate sub-debates going on. Much better than the "Best NEIPA", "10,000th review", threads

Got to agree with @rozzom on this one. Your idea for a topic has worked well and it has also been very informative.

For me it's not even that I feel like I must finish every drop of beer, it's that I honestly have not come across many beers that taste so poorly. Maybe I've been lucky?

I'm more inclined to be fine with people who leave beer in their glass. Likely, there's no spectacle involved with those people. Plus, maybe they had to drive, or they just choked down a plate of biscuits and sausage gravy and can't stomach another drop of liquid.

Hilarious. Yeah , that's exactly what I said, you know, minus the distortion and exaggeration .

A few glasses of wine and acclimating to sensations. You must be one of the few completely clear headed people with fresh taste buds after that. It's just not done like that in reality. You do whatever you want though.

Other than the sample size stuff I actually agree with a lot of your posts. But damn you can be abrasive.

Brewers/Brewpubs that can't take any form of constructive criticism. I've seen situations where people have actually been threatened by brewers/owners over Facebook comments/Yelp reviews, etc. I fully understand getting upset if someone has a general comment like "your beer sucks" but is that a reason to threaten or attack that person personally?

    Customer service is key!

I feel that, there is a place around me that has great beer but holy cow they are so pretentious. Literally sit and talk about other local breweries behind the bar in front of other customers. I have a hard time even buying their stuff to-go knowing how they roll.

On a related note, any brewery that posts comments on Untappd checkins need to CHILL.

It really needs to be stated in this discussion that the "standard" Saison Dupont used to be dry hopped years ago. The brewers discontinued the practice, but it lives on in the special annual dry hopped version (which changes the hops used every year).

When Michael Jackson wrote about the style in 1991, he stated that dry hopping was common traditionally. He also stated that he felt that Saison Dupont had more character to him in the '70s... and he thought that perhaps this was due to the dry hopping. This might not be the case though, since as far as I know, Dupont stopped the dry hopping in the '60s - but maybe that's not a correct fact.

Furthermore, according to Yvan De Baets, saisons were often heavily hopped historically... particularly if they were brewed to be stored. Dry hopping was a widespread practice for saisons like this.

Today, Saison Dupont is a hoppy beer. I think people probably need to be re-calibrated due to the IPAs they drink. In my opinion, rather than saying that a saison shouldn't be dry hopped, one should say that they don't particularly like their saisons tasting like modern American IPAs with new world hops. But I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that, I'm just twisting the language to reflect what I think people are really trying to say.

Beyond that - Obviously, "the style is important to Dupont." To think anything else is silly.
