I prefer to go from lightest tasting to more robust tasting.

For example, my first beer would be something like a Helles or a Witbier and the later beers would be hoppy or higher alcohol beers.

Preserve your taste buds throughout the drinking session.

    Cheers!

Sweetness also seems to play a factor. I wouldn't recommend starting with a very sweet beer.

I once drank an aged barleywine that tasted full of dark fruits and caramelized sugar. I followed it up with a BCBS and it tasted like no other BCBS I've ever had (and not in a good way).

Low ABV to high ABV. Otherwise, you can't remember what you had.

Lighter to heavier, both in flavor and abvs. That said, perhaps my age plays a role, but the more diverse or different style of beers/ales I have in a session, the more likely to have an aching head later.

light to dark - mostly, most lagers before ales (but somewhat depends - as I like to check IBU's and ABV's), unless there's a sour involved and then I want to 'know' what that sour is like before I drink (weird caveat to me of how sours seem to be getting incredibly diverse these days).

But one thing I practically never stray from is - always the Black IPA/Black Ale/CDA as the last one of the night/session. 10+ years of beer drinking has told me that the "Black IPA/Black Ale/CDA" is the biggest palate wrecker than any other beer style.

edit: for food, always clean white bread, and a mild non-spicy cheese (Colby is nice). As much as I like pepperjack or any food with spices in it, spicy foods distract from tasting what the brewer intended for those beers.

second edit: yeah, I guess barely anyone drinks black IPA's anymore other than me. Me, I'm glad to be an old fart!

    1) Drink the beer you are most excited about first.

    2) Drink the beer you are most excited about in a different style next.

Repeat step 2 until you are ready for bed.

I'm not too picky about tasting order, but anything light and subtle comes first, like Kolsch or Helles. Most beer styles in the middle are free game, but really intense sours or BBA stouts are always last.

I drink hops last, my only goal is to not mess up my palate for the more delicate styles.

Is this wild ale sour or does it simply have brett in it?

Some water between different beers does help, but IPAs are almost always last, unless there is something crazy on the menu.

If I am trying something for the first time, I go with that first. I then move on to beers I am familiar with. I just don't like trying new beers after having already had a few - doesn't do them justice. As for style order, I got with strong, stronger, and then strongest!

What's a warehouse beer? Open fridge, stick hand in, grab beer. Repeat as needed.

Ask proclamation ... their latest offering “breathing life into a dead ghost” is labeled as a warehouse ale. Aged in gin barrels. It was pretty sour and I sadly didn’t pick up on much barrel flavor

I like six packs so I routinely follow one beer with another of the same beer. I repeat this process up to six times on occasion.

From what I can tell, it could be a burner beer, or a macro, or a gas station beer, or a guilty pleasure beer - maybe it refers only to an AAL or ILL or even a BMC (<don't let the initials fool you on that one 'cause a beer from a small, independent brewery can also be a "BMC" - go figure.)
