Store I went to today had Yuengling Lager cans for $18. The Japanese supermarket that I go to rotates Sapporo, Kirin Ichiban, and Asahi Super Dry for 20$ every other week. I skip the Asahi. Genny Cream kicks ass. PBR is in my house often. I usually drink them to slow down or just have one with lunch.

I never buy anything of this nature. If its brought over and left after a party it gets stocked in the beer cooler. New years left a haul of Miller Lite, Stella, and Leinekugels Grapefruit Shandy . That should last till mid summer then people will start leaving deck beers. It's the circle of life.

For me, if I have adjunct lagers at home, it’s PBR which I do like the flavor of. I actually think it tastes very similar to a well made Kolsch, not too different from Muhlen. The other option is Tecate which is my cerveza of choice when I’m in Mexico for lunch. As a result, I normally keep some around for tacos at home.

Do you think they are switching from PBR to Hamms?

    Cheers!

Definitely not a popular opinion. People want to romanticize German beers.

High Life is pretty much the undisputed champ when it comes to cheap beer. Only problem I've ever had with them is that the carbonation is so fookin' high that after twelve of them I sometimes feel my stomach cannot handle another bubble. Not that they get me overly intoxicated, just that my stomach becomes one large cesspool of carbonation.

Otherwise, FRESH Budweiser in bottles is pretty solid believe it or not. And Miller Lite is basically water in terms of flavor and body so having that on hand isn't a bad thing when it comes to mass appeal and excessive drink ability.

I always plug DAB Dortmunder Export... I personally think it's really good and comparable in price to many US domestic AALs. DAB seems to move pretty quickly in my area too, so I can usually find it relatively fresh despite crossing the Atlantic...YRMV.

Honorable mentions to Yuengling, Hamm's, and Heineken Light.

I don't buy anything I won't drink, but I am not a snob. I won't turn down a Bud, Miller, Coors, PBR or any other of that ilk. I just choose not to buy them. If somebody else bought 'em and the situation calls for it, who am I to say no? When in Rome.

The beers I keep for the "just a beer" times and for general gatherings are usually Harpoon (most of the time, actually), Sam Adams, Narragansett. No complaints I know about.

It's funny (off topic a little) - I used to be completely open about sharing beer with any guests. A lot of 1/4 to 1/2 filled bottles sitting around after gatherings has changed my mind on the "open cellar" concept. (Four-ish ounces out of an Allagash Curieux bomber left open on the deck kinda sealed the deal there). I don't try to "convert" anyone by offering them "introductory beers" - it's like teaching a pig to sing. I now put things away that I think might go to waste or that will likely not be appreciated. I've learned what regular guests like and don't like and either have what they enjoy or offer a close alternative. People closest to us know there's a "stash" - and most times those are the people that end up sitting around the fire pit who are open to tasting different beers.

I think I have the opposite mentality of the burner beer. If we’re entertaining a larger group, I will provide some “gateway” craft such as DFH 60, Stone IPA, or 2 Hearted. This way if they don’t like my core lineup (which usually includes limited distribution IPAs, Saisons and stouts) they’ll have a fall back. And if the fall backs are not all consumed during he event, I don’t mind finishing them off at a later date.

Please don't say that's like changing from Crystal to Madd Dog 50 50. Pabst is the best cheap beer ever made. It tastes like, well BEER!!

Miller Lite and Rubaeus or Soft Parade for the wine drinkers who don’t typically drink beer.

Lol it did when my beer was crowding out his in the garage! Beverage cooler fridge in the house just for me = problem solved. As a bonus I don’t risk him offering any of my beer to any of his friends lol.

I use it as an opportunity to get rid of the mediocre craft beer I have lying around. Everyone knows they're not getting a AAL when they come here. Sure, if we're having a big party like my daughter's graduation party last year, I'll fill a tub of Narraganset and Bud Lite, but other than that... nope.
