I don't think an opinion on beer gets more controversial than this lol

At the time of the initiation of the "Freshness Initiative" Pilsner Urquell claimed:
    ...while also noting that:
Of course, that applied to the MillerCoors' Tenth & Blake Pilsner Urquell, other countries/importers might not follow the same policies and procedures.

As for the retailer, the Tenth & Blake brand manager further explained:
...and from what I see, the local MC distributors' reps and the retailers all pretty much ignore it.
Brown bottles for the US market came a couple years after that, the most they did in '12 was the aspect you quoted:

Did the same for me, kinda. Made me glad I vowed never to buy or sell a beer on secondary, and made me doubly sure it is the right decision for me.

    Super hoppy Pilsners then?

It's cool, I love Pilsners too (ones that's don't taste like IPLs). And Creep's a good song, just not their best by a long shot for my tastes. Of course, anything after "Ok Computer" I can't get behind.

Does Duvel fall under that category?

Ah ok. Regardless, with all the trouble they go through with their attempt to keep the beer cold, AND the brown bottles, if I see Pilsner Urquell in my local fridge (not on the floor) and it's < 3 months old, it tastes great to me.

How hoppy it is is a good indicator of freshness for me. It's a decently hoppy beer when fresh.

    Now you're just trolling :stuck_out_tongue:.

Kid A will be forever polarizing, but Amnesiac and Hail to the Thief were actually really good albums. Everything after that was pretty forgettable though. I didn't even realize they had a new album out in 2016.

I'm on board with this; I hate that "Belgian" taste.

People that don't like Belgian beer usually have a very narrow palate.

What types of beers DO you like, fellas?

I'm not a particularly big fan of that yeast quality that you're referring to either, but I discovered that the darker Belgian beers either have less of it, or it simply works better for my palate with the darker malts. If you haven't already, try a St. Bernardus 12 and see what you think. I still don't seek out the lighter stuff, but I would have been missing out on something I really enjoy if I hadn't given the darker stuff a go.

And hat tip for a brashly presented, truly controversial opinion in the thread!

This is rubbish. That yeast taste is very distinct and if you don't like it, you don't like it. They may represent a hugely important part of the history of beer, but taste wise it's easy to like the vast majority of beer and not care for that specific flavor.

I thought we were being controversial here, man.

Regardless, if you don't like yeast that produce a lot of phenols and esters, that limits the beers that you can enjoy. Even though I like beers that use cleaner tasting yeast, they can be pretty boring.

I'd post a response, but I really need to keep my post count on this page down.

I guess your familiar with the 3 tier system then? Sometimes the retailer is unable to access the beers due to the distro they have to work with.

This. I didn't like the yeast until I started drinking the quads. Now I can go back to the trippel/dubbel styles and appreciate them, YMMV.

I am very familiar with the so called 3 tier system and operated within it for nearly 40 years. As a wholesaler I sought out brands to expand the portfolio and to bring better and better beers (and wine) to the state of North Carolina. Everything is not available, only that which an enterprising wholesaler seeks out, successfully garners, and offers into the market. OK?
