What beer are you drinking now? #1958

This tasty local imperial stout from Kelsen brewed with local Sumatra Coffee and Chocolate is world class.

 

Now where is Kelsen lol? That’s one I haven’t heard of.

 

I've been up since 2 am too! Thank you @TongoRad and @cavedave for a marvelous surprise. This is Catskill Brewery's Nightshine Black Lager. This is a tremendous brewer that loves the lager. Pours not quite clear mahogany brown leaning toward chestnut. Some honey hues around the edges. Fat off white head that was loathe to fall. It left sheets first and then rings. The black lager is very dramatic. The nose is a touch of roasty elegance. A dry unsweetened unsweetened chocolate biscuit. Only a cool whisper from hops. The hop pepper makes up for the lack of sweetness on the palate. Finishes dry and with a silken moment at the very end of that shows bitter chocolate and walnuts. The hops leave the tongue tingling lightly from a mild bitterness.

I am going to pair this beer with baby back ribs in black bean sauce. Have you heard of jajangmeon? Like that only I am going to put a little sugar to those ribs. I made some candied ginger and have a bunch of gingery sugar left over. My dish should be spicy and a little rich to go over the soba noodle. I love this beer. Cheers!

I'm not the sort of person whose mood is altered by heavy rain and colder than cool weather. I am an avid fly fisherman who's too damn old to be negotiating streams swollen to the bursting point and muddy banks so I'm not getting out today. May as well revisit this one . . .

Rogue Hazelnut Brown Nectar



Attractive clear reddish brown color with small tan cap.

Aroma of roasted (coffeeish) malt and hazelnut with light, almost floral hops in the background.

Taste on entry is a roasty maltiness with a definite hazelnut twist. Hops are present but not very assertive. Flavors are clean and consistent throughout with an emerging roast bitterness in the aftertaste.

 

NH they brew some great and some just O.k beers. This one is excellent.

Go big or go home. I’m going on vacation today, so starting things off with something big to celebrate my absence from the office over the next two weeks.

 

Beer By numbers 3|07 Baltic Porter. This is a pretty strong one and I like it, but I prefer the Beavertown Smog Rocket I had yesterday. And considering the Baltic porter is almost double the price, I probly wont get it again, definitely worth trying though.

 

5.25% alcohol. 30 IBU. Introduced in 2016. Brewed in Texas.

 

Moondance! I worked (a few decades ago) for a guy that looked like Van Morrison after he got fat and grew his hair out. He didn't sing as well. Every time I hear that song, I think of "Uncle Jimmy" and start to snicker. How the hell can you think of food so early, let alone cook it!

What's the can date? I loved this beer.

 

Dropped the car off at the mechanic. My local hangout is halfway walk between garage and home. Stopping in for a new beer - “Fresher Than Fresh” by Civil Society Brewing, Jupiter FL, a DIPA:



Murky. Juicy. Creamy feel. Pineapple and citrus nose/tongue. Lite bitter citrus rind finish. No alcohol flavor for 8.7%. A NE IPA “style”, as best I understand it...nailed it!
