The fact that it's 2018 and it's still really hard for places to update or even have a tap list online.

Some are easy and some are a pain. I understand their lawyer told them to cover their ass.
The ones that entertain me (and piss me of) start their date selection with 2018 and go down from there. Not only do I have to page through a lot of years that don't apply to me, I always wonder how many 1-month olds tell the truth (2018) and are denied entrance.

Great post.. and I intend on reading them all. Before I do, I just wanted to say I understand your POV, and if I was to open a brewery, I'd do 'the right thing' by having a age verification at the main page. It just chaps my biscuits that someone would even think it's an issue, as it's so superfluous.

One of the things that cripples this country, is the lack of .. never mind, that's for another website forum.

My pet peeve is people telling me that I'm wrong for criticizing what they're doing.

And calling Bourbon County Stout BCBS.

I scroll only as far as necessary. I am forever 21. As far as covering your ass from a legal perspective, I hereby offer my services as a juror free of charge to any brewer or distributor finding itself the target of a frivolous lawsuit.

I detest people who describe a beer (or any potable beverage) as tasting "smooth". Smooth is a texture not a taste. By describing a taste as "smooth" they are in essence saying they lack the vocabulary to give an intelligent, enlightened opinion of what they are tasting, and I do not take their opinion seriously. They should stick to simply saying they either like or dislike they beer in question.

"Smooth" always makes me wonder if the brewer offers the same beer in a "Chunky" version, too.

I sometimes use smooth as a descriptor for non-abrasive flavors. Especially when describing barrel flavor (e.g. smooth = no alcohol heat)

I sometimes use smooth as a descriptor for the same reason, to describe the absence of jagged edges. In this context I believe the term is understandable.

I have recently contacted another large German craft brewer concerning the freshness of their beer on the supermarket shelves and they actually replied to me that everything was fine since their beers are stored in cooling units. According to this brewer, if kept refrigerated, IPAs will retain their fresh taste for just over a year, which is the usual best by date duration from filling in Germany. I really wonder if that guy is actually that stupid or just full of shit.

What makes this worse is that the beers in question aren't even just their own beers, they also distribute Firestone Walker and Mikkeller beers under their label, so are basically ruining other brewers reputations by allowing their beers to remain in retail for up to 14 months, when they have long lost all hop flavour, regardless of cooling.

Irrespective of what he says I'm confident a brewer can tell the difference between his beers when they are fresh and when they are old.

Can the phrases 'blew my mind" or "didn't blow my mind" when describing a beer be retired on account of over usage? And if not, I've come up with the name of my brewery, Minds Blown Brewing.

Sure, if they want to make a recommendation to someone who doesn't like to taste their way through the available options - but believing yourself to be anything beyond a beer drinker in a ridiculous notion. That being said, I noticed a few beer historians here...and as annoying as they might be, that is something all together different that someone believing themselves to be a beer "veteran".

Sometimes I go with " certified beer sniffer" I've led sensory evaluations for beer and whiskey. Usually I go with beer geek. For me it's all about attitude. I like to be helpful and informative, not snobby and a know it all. I like to think I've learned 1 or 2 things in 40 years of boozing. Maybe 3.

There are a lot of chains where I'm from (Nashville) that carry craft beer. Twin Peaks, Hooters, and O'Charley's all carry local craft beer. Maybe Nashville is just lucky!
