Granted the Gorge stops being as gorgey, but I always loved getting out past The Dalles. It's quite a haul, but get out to the northeast corner of the state and check out the Wallowa Mountains some time.

There's the quilt coven coming up in Sisters in July - that looks like the time to spend two hours driving 21 miles...

The final twist of the knife - not Georgia, Florida. Even further. The cruelty knows no limits.

Todd is as good as American brewing gets, especially when it's fresh, IMHO. Furious is the beer that built The Mothership (the new brewery, with the mega-expanded capacity), but Todd's a better beer, again, IMHO.

    Well, here's # 2 for NBS.

Apricot Juice Packets from The Fermentorium.

    Does it have apricot? CHECK.
    Is it juicy? CHECK.
    Any other flavors? Check, hops.

Yeah, this is a good beer.

This beer pours a somewhat murky golden color. Head was 1 finger, but dissipated right away.
The nose is quite juicy with the apricot. It smells like juice, and there's no alcohol on the nose.
Taste - apricot is the dominate flavor. There's a bit of hops in there also that provides a nice bitterness to this beer that works well with the apricot.
This beer has a decent body. The hops also give a nice feel to this beer.
Fruity, hops, tasty. This is a delicious beer, and I do recommend it.

I don't have to work tomorrow, at least, I don't think I have to work tomorrow, so there may be another beer after this.

Sorry. I'm semi retired and no one stepped up to the plate to fill the shoes .

I'm a fan of Eastern Oregon, especially La Grande and Baker City. Will check out Wallowa next time for sure!

Love Sisters. The Frau and I have already discussed that as being our potential retirement spot some time in the future as long as it doesn't blow up too much. Still love Bend just 1/2 hour away, but scared to see where it's headed.

If your driving from Portland, it's about 3 hours, but if you go through the Santiam Pass it's pretty damn beautiful. Detroit Lake alone is worth it!

    Go Blue, @WesMantooth

Pours black with a long-lasting tan head that's slightly fizzy with decent lacing.

The smell is dark malt and whiskey with dark chocolate at the end.

The taste is very sweet with a lot of dark malts and some char. There is a bunch of chocolate on the end. There is an alcohol presence throughout.

The mouthfeel is medium carbonation and medium/thick body.

Overall a good beer with a bit unusual blend of flavors. The more it warms, the more I like it.

No worries. Those are some big shoes, indeed. Just like this snifter. Man, this thing holds a lot of Bigfoot. Wait, what was I talking about...? Honest, officer, I only had one glass of beer...

(Disclaimer: Please do not try this at home. I am a trained professional in some area or another. I think. On second thought, maybe you better not try this at all.)

Yeah, I definitely recommend revisiting that brew if you find it fresh (it helps that I used to live 15 min away from the brewery). I rated it a 4.4 overall, and that hop bill cannot be denied! It's a solid brew, but I'm not surprised it did not stand up well over time.

    Cheers!

My new beer for tonight is Southern Tier A Wrinkle In The Fabric! An unfiltered DIPA hopped with Huell Melon and Mandarina Bavaria, part 2 of 6 of their ongoing rotating DIPA series.

It comes in a hazy, yet translucent copper color, and boasts a large fluffy white head. The head dies down after a few minutes, leaving a tight film and sheets of lacing.

On the nose, you get the Huell Melon and Mandarina Bavaria for sure, as well as some nice malt. I'm getting notes of honeydew melon, orange, grapefruit, pineapple, green grape, gooseberry, honey, toasted bread, and slight herbaceousness.

On the palate, you get the honeydew melon, green grape, and gooseberry upfront. Then fellows with orange marmalade and candied pineapple. Some sweetness from the malt and abv then slide in, offering toasted bread and honey. A touch of orange peel bitterness comes in on the backend, but this DIPA isn't particularly bitter. It leans slightly sweet, but actually dries up pretty nicely on the finish. On the finish, you get some grass from the hops showing their Noble roots, before closing out with some lingering hop oil/malt sugar stickiness.

The mouthfeel is approaching full-bodied, smooth, slick, and slightly creamy, yet without carbonation to move across the palate. It leaves the palate sticky with resins.

Overall, a really good offering from Southern Tier. I still prefer the first iteration of the series--All Is Well At The Station--over this one, but this is still very well done.

Back with a late night new beer (Is LNNBS a thing?). My beer tonight is Freigeist Roggenfeld, a rye dopplebock that clocks in at 10.6% abv. Not sure of the freshness as there is no date that I can find.

Look- pours a murky mahogany brown w/a ring of off white head.

Aroma- prunes, brown sugar and some booze; as the beer warms, the prune becomes less evident and i get more brown sugar and grainy bread, and the booze becomes a bit more pronounced

Taste- starts with a rich doughy malt flavor w/a little of the prune and brown sugar; then it transitions into some tartness along with a black pepper spicy zip, and some booze. not picking up any hop flavors that i'm aware of

Feel- full-bodied and chewy, one of the thickest beers I've ever had. Low carbonation. Long finish with a boozy tingle

Overall- some interesting malt flavors combined with a super chewy feel make for a unique and enjoyable beer

Pours a deep mahogany with a slight tan head. The nose is cinnamon, raisin, tobacco. The taste is led by cinnamon, some chocolate a hint of sweetness. Where is the cookie taste?
Mouth feel is a little on the thin but not in a bad way.
I'm a big fan of Maduro and this varient is very good. Very different but a really nice beer.

    Hello fellow NBSrs......

I must apologize for my slackiness lately. Work has been absolutely brutal for quite some time. Haven’t had a day off in quite some time and still have quite a bit to go before one surfaces. But, such is life.

    Without further ado.....

My first beer from D9 and it didn’t disappoint. A lovely wild ale with strawberries, rhubarb and balsamic sea salt.

This beer strikes a very nice balance between sweet strawberries upfront, with tart rhubarb coming in mid palette and a hint of sea salt closing things out. Prickly carbonation with a ever so slightly dry finish makes this beer incredibly refreshing. I would love to crush this on a 90+ degree day.

The beer is very well put together as everything is in harmony. Not one ingredient overpowers the other. An excellent job brewing this beauty. 4/5 without breaking a sweat.

    Cheers all!
