When someone rates a beer poorly just because they don't like that style of beer.
    "I don't really like stouts. That's why I'm giving this 2 stars."
Your preference for beer style doesn't determine whether the beer is a good representation of that style!!!

I think this only works for chili beers, because there are no good chili beers. Or at least none where the addition of chili enhances the base beer.

And with that, I've found pet peeve #3: that (most) chili beers exist.

The problem with generalizations is that they're generalizations. There are some folks on here that are professional brewers and/or cicerones and/or home brewers, and likely very knowledgeable and talented, as opposed to the rest of us hacks.

This. There is no other word than "smooth" to describe, say, The Glenlivet after you've had, say, Lauder's.

When people use the word "****" in context of high beer prices. I even read someone say that today. Please....just don't.

Must get expensive to only drink beer at pubs. Do you ever suck it up and drink packaged beer at home? Do you make any exceptions? I'm not being antagonistic at all, as I understand and appreciate your stance on cask ale, especially given where you live.

Also, if you had an option (and you had to make a choice), would you take Bellhaven Scottish Ale in a bottle or in a widget nitro can?

Hacks? Beer is not a race or challenge. There are no upper echelons of beer prowess.
Beer rotting in over-crowded cellars is a travesty.
We all have tongues and noses and we all enjoy beer in the same fashion.

That's literally not even kind of sort of close to the realm of being in the same ballpark as correct.

I believe you actually believe that people don't sense and taste the same thing, but that's just not true. Not even close.

You actually believe that if someone can wax poetic for three paragraphs about a stout that they are somehow enjoying it more than someone who doesn't give a preacher's fart about writing a beer review, or taking a class on how to appreciate beer?

    I don't.

I think if you're taking a class on how to enjoy beer than you need to take other classes as well. Like how to enjoy the things that surround beer. Like time, people and the sky

Sure we all have tongues and noses, I've got one of each - but they're not all the same. My sense of smell sucks, probably due to cleaning chemical and solvent exposure when I was 18. Others have average sense of smell and taste, and some are gifted with much keener senses. Those are the folks hired by wineries and perfume companies. Chances are pretty good (on average) that some above average but amateur noses/tongues frequent this site.

I work at a fragrance house and I understand sensory acuity...I literally witness it every moment of the day. However, I do not believe perfumers enjoy perfume more than consumers of perfume. You cannot quantify that. You cannot quantify enjoyment.

You seem to be missing it.

Let me try to set a very clear example:

You have 1 person (Person A) that has almost no ability to taste vanilla. You have another person (Person B) that has a an exceptional ability to taste vanilla.

Both Person A and person B drink a beer that has vanilla in it.

Don't you think it's possible person B, who can actually taste the vanilla, might enjoy it more?

Why the heck would person A buy that vanilla beer then?

If the beer is one dimensional - maybe.

Taste is very personal, if it's a well made beer, they may both enjoy it, but for different reasons.

If we are going full hypothetical, it's possible that person B may enjoy it less because of that same ability.

    Yep.

The point is just that we don't experience things the same way. In terms of things we consume that have taste and smell components, we don't all experience them the same way. Sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse.
