I'd change the "universally recommended" language. I'm sure those places have their detractors, and too often these lists reinforce groupthink. How about "most frequently recommended?" I'd also like to see an "on the rise and hidden gems" section or something of that sort, an off-the-beaten-path guide to the Chicago beer scene, if you will.

Oh, that’s right. I guess I just have trouble saying I love Deep Wood.

    ...no idea why.

I'd suggest adding Monk's Pub to the Chicago city limits bars.

Id also suggest a tweak to the categories. I like what @islay said:
Also, I think it might be better to divide the suburbs into North / West / South & NorthwestIndiana - that allows people to look at the list and see what is closest to where they'd be.

No problem moving Rev up & then differentiating out the brewpub from the taproom. My experience has been that Rev has not regularly been "universally recommended" until this years Deep Woods series hit included Spiteful because it's right next to HA Balmoral so I usually see "if you're going to HA Balmoral also hit up Spiteful next door."

Thought about that, but didn't want the list to get too segregated or only have a few options in each category. We can definitely look at that though

I guess my concern is that the suburbs are ... expansive. So yes, Hailstorm and Mikerphone are in the suburbs ... but they're also quite far away.

I think the most important thing isn't to get every single bar/brewery/shop correct at this point, but rather to actually get it out there and posted. As time goes on, edits can be made...and perhaps more importantly, we can see what the feedback is from visitors in terms of what they liked and didn't like.

We all owe @lloydboss a beer whenever we get the chance to meet him.

Great idea! Fantastic lists and suggestions on the thread.

I'd recommend putting Temperance Brewery and Taproom on the suburban list. They have won two GABF medals and have a very chill taproom. Their recent barrel aged release of Might Meets Right and three variants was very well received and raised their profile even more.

Id also recommend putting Bangers & Lace on the restaurant list. Great food, ambiance and incredible beer selection.

Both are Evanston based and I could see someone hitting these places along with Sketchbook Brewing and FEW Spirits to make a day of it.

Lastly, I didnt see West Lakeview Liquors on the bottle shop list but I might have missed it.

appreciate everyone's feedback, I think we're ready to go. I do want to lock this thread down for new posts once we start the actual resource thread, so if anyone knows how please LMK....

I will be in the City for St Patrick day weekend. Living in New England we now get pipeworks and have had revolution for a while. I plan on visiting half acre and possibly 3 Floyd’s as I will have a car. Anyone have any recommendations for some other delicious IPA/DIPA ‘s

I’m not being a jerk (or at least not trying to be), but did you read this thread? It literally has what is generally recommended by locals. If you’re not sure whether the top recommendations have IPA/DIPAs, I can tell you that they do. Take these recommendations and have a great time. And if you’re staying downtown, be ready for a shitshow that weekend. Actually, it’ll be a shitshow anywhere with drinking that weekend.
