Was that because of the Bier und Wein?

I mean, they're practically on opposite sides of the realm.

I went to that fest in 2015 and had a great time! It's the most amazing location for a beer festival, in the moat of an old castle.

    Nice one! thanks for picposting.

As it happens, I have Nikl-Bräu on my list (besides an unmanageable list of too many others for a family man), having liked their Zwickl during Braukunst Live 2016.

On all Franken-Brauereien too far out off our Hallerndorf-Memmelsdorf-Forchheim triangle, Nürnberg Bierfest will have to deliver.

[sorry to hijack thread from Würzburg to Nürnberg, but: suck it Würzburg]

It was because of a general, ill-guided, suspicion & ignorance of all things Bavarian, being Belgian-born and Baden-Würtemberg-educated. Mea maxima c/gulpa!

Why do people always have to "pick sides" between wine and beer?...
Plus, you will find franconian wine in shops in Nürnberg, sure. But you won't find vineyards there or in the region...so I would say true, because,Nürnberg has no (local) wine at all...

I've been wanting to visit Nikl-Bräu ever since I saw this video in 2010.

The festival was as close as I've gotten. The beers were very good!

    1:02: Now that's a Zwickelbier!

You suppose they use the same yeast for the bread as they do the beer?

Watching that again, I think he drew that sample from the mash tun.

More I look at that, the editing is a little creative -- the brewmaster scoops up some yeast guyle, but then we see a boil going on... either way, I'm sure the beer from that quaint little burg is more delicious than I could ask for!

Was going to post a few pix of my Nikl visit over the weekend, then realized I had to download them to a 3rd party site, etc ... and never got around to it... Nice little place, and village...

    Prosit!

I mean picking Franconian sides in purely logistical terms. even if you only live 400km away, it makes a difference preparing your family for a 5-day Ferienwohnung trip to Weinfranken or Bierfranken.
Also, I'm kind of saving deeper domestic Wein explorations for my 40s :grinning:
