I like Devils Backbone and Boston Lager but AleSmith has brewed a winner with their Sublime. Unfortunately it is a brewed once deal. They have had some success in that it went to a national release and sold well. Could we possibly see the revival of @Sierranevadabill Vienna Lager?

Hopefully you mean Bill has gone onto other opportunities/retirement/whatever? Not no longer as in, no longer present anywhere...

The Vienna Lager that Sierra Nevada brewed in the past was indeed a tasty beer.

In addition to Devils Backbone Vienna Lager I appreciate:
    • Von Trapp Vienna Lager
    • Neshaminy Creek Churchville Lager
    • Double Nickel Vienna Lager
    Cheers!

Had Eliot Ness on tap at a New Year's Eve party a few years ago and I remember it being awesome!

Devils backbone is ok, better on tap IMO, but the style is hit or miss for me just like Fest beers. Some I like and some are just ok, sometimes the malt and sweet just doesn't work for me.

I've only had it on tap, and it must have been a really fresh keg because, man, those hops really did pop. But now looking over the reviews it seems like I had a totally different beer from most others- I'm guessing those are from a bottle then.

:astonished: Big jump there in the history of Wiener/Vienna style beers in North America.

Numerous lager brewers in pre-Prohibition US offered "Wiener Beer" as part of their portfolio (including well-known brands like Blatz, Miller and Schaefer). @Crusader in post #77 of this thread translated and quoted from the German-language Manual for the American Brewer and Maltster from the late 19th century which found numerous US lager beers to be closet to "Vienna Beer".

After Repeal, the style returned usually labeled "Vienna type", the best known example of the latter being Coors Export (at the time their flagship, although they also brewed Coors Pilsener) and Pearl Brewing Co. in San Antonio's second beer called Texas Pride. In the 1930s, the brewers of those two described them:
Rahr Malting including "Vienna" as one of it's six main lager recipes in its promotional materials in the Repeal era (along with Pilsner, Bock, Munich, Salvator and Kulmbacher).
