If you think the first 22 pages were good, hold on to your seat for the next 100 pages.

I know this has been a rumor every other year or so... but this time, I hope it’s legit.

Sharing at DLD isn’t fun like it used to be. The last two years have not been the same as years past. Probably has something to do with those stupid drink tickets in 2016 ruining the vibe, but last year wasn’t fantastic either.

Just not worth it anymore. Share outside the gates until 10am and be done with it. One could argue that’s when the best sharing has always occurred anyway.

As someone who has only gone to the last two DLD, what made last year not-so-fantastic compared to previous years? Just curious because I have had nothing but a blast the last two years.

I'm guessing if they got rid of sharing inside the event there would probably be some crack down on sharing outside the event as well. Certainly harder to enforce, but it seems like the drinking before 10 am may be the thing that ignites most of the idiocy seen later.

Also, I've only gone the past two years, but have found the sharing to be awesome.

Getting rid of it because you didn't like it last year isn't a compelling argument for getting rid of the bottle shares. Is there something that personally affects you in regards to it? I don't do the bottle share, but have never had an issue with those who are participating....

How would they "crack down" on outside shares? Is the Dark Lord the Lord of other people's private property too?

I can vouch for Rob - he's more in tune with midwest beer happenings than most here (present company included)

Edit: It's also possible it's his sense of humor - could be another A Group post coming on its heels...with this thread it gets hard to tell

Watching the shit show of this thread has me too excited! Made the journey in 16' and despite the non-stop rain it's been one of my top beer related experiences. Have the airfare booked, rolling the dice me and my friend lock in tickets this year.

Can't wait to share some west coast love with everyone at the festival!

I don't like using the porta-potties at DLD so by your logic they should ban them for everyone there?

No bottle share?!??!?!?! Now FFF is going to have to somehow collaborate with ABinBev distributors to rein in enough keg tapper fridge trucks to keep the drink lines shorter. Who’s down with that Sauternes Barrel-aged Bud Light Chelada with cardamom?

There is indeed a law that allows this. This means that the legislators would have to vote to repeal the entire law or vote to amend this specific part of the law. Unless Indiana allows for home rule exceptions the city itself couldn't vote in an ordinance against it. Therefor it is highly unlikely that any discussions with the city on getting building permits issued, with the stipulation that there would not be any outside alcohol being brought in, have taken place. Why? That's the only legal way in which Three Floyds could guarantee it.
That being said, any discussions involving giving up something that is allowed legally by the State for the sake of getting a city permit would be considered bribery and is in turn illegal.
Lastly I'll employ some simple logic to the thought of this being a possibility. Three Floyds is a brewery, brew pub, and distillery. They have legally purchased land, expanded the site for Dark Lord Day, lobbied the State to pass a law allowing beer sharing, and applied for permits to expand their business and bring more money to the city of Munster as well as the State of Indiana. Why would they have to appease the city now for a permit? Better yet, why would they want to? They could have simply applied for the permit and been told no. Then when they asked why the city says "well, if you get rid of the bottle share..", and Three Floyds replies "Its State law for one and if you like we could take you to court for refusing to issue a permit for expansion unless we stop doing something that is legal by Indiana law."

Are you familiar with the police force? This is all a hypothetical (what the hell else do we have to entertain ourselves with at this point?), but if somehow the city was so concerned about the drunken mess the area becomes, they could easily ensure a handful of police officers are stationed near the entrances. I don't think any of us are technically allowed to just be drinking in public on the side of the street there.

I don't think it's going to happen, but if the city REALLY thought there was too much drunken behavior occurring, getting the drinking to at least be contained to the hours of the festival would be a start. Of course, we're all gonna get as drunk as we wanna get once inside the festival (with or without bottle shares), so I think it would be negligible.

i think this is just a ploy by @reefer_bob to get us past 30 pages before the ticket sales are announced...
