Taking the thread topic out of it. I just wonder what the humor police find funny these days?

Probably we'll continue to disagree, but notice that it only seems like a stretch to us because we didn't grow up in and don't live in that era. If we had there's a good chance we or some of our neighbors would be enjoying it.

Enjoy the rest of your day!

I'll admit everyone is looking to be offended, but at the same time. Phrasing goes a long way.

Are some of you effing serious? **** "humor" is not cool....ever. Is society getting more sensitive? Em, dunno, perhaps it is just getting more respectful. The fact that some people are finding the message from Stone "okay" or "funny" is disturbing. Grow the eff up and get some respect.

I wonder about this, too, at times. Personally, I'd rather get my humor from places/people that I know are joking. Getting humor from a craft brewer isn't expected nor is it necessary. I just want great beer from them. I'll source my humor myself.

The funniest part of this to me is Stone's response, because if their schtick was for real they would have said, "Fuck off, it's a joke. Get over yourselves already." Instead they said, "We're SO sorry, we didn't think it would be an issue. PLEASE forgive us and, most of all, keep buying our beer."

I was born when Eisenhower was president. This shit is just stupid, no way the guy who sent this did not know what he was doing. Did it offend me? No. But it's easy to see where it is offensive, if you look.

Personally, I am almost impossible to offend. I'm from the George Carlin school of thought, that by saying something is out-of-bounds to joke about is the first step towards censorship. That said, what crude, nasty, rude, tasteless jokes I make among friends, or what a performer says from stage is one thing. The difference is that what Arrogant Brewing, a company trying to extract dollars from the pockets of everyone they can, posts on social media is a direct reflection of their values. They need to be aware that things like these are viewed differently than they were 5-10-20-40 years ago.

Maybe this will make them realize that the "you're not worthy" schtick is as stupid as we've known it to be for all these years and that they should just concentrate on making beer?

    Na . . . never happen.

I should state that what I am about to state applies to me personally:

Even 20ish years ago I never 'got' the Stone marketing shtick. Yes they were expressing views in an 'arrogant' manner which sort of aligns with the beer of Arrogant Bastard but it just seemed 'off' to me. Why not market your beer so that it has broad appeal. Were there people who were 'put off' by the Stone stuff 20 years ago? Probably. Why not market your beers appropriately to them as well?

What is the present day thinking? It is OK to be 'arrogant' but not to cross the line into misogyny? Who defines exactly where that line is? Is the fact that the next person to manage tweets is a female by definition mean that line will never be crossed?

Why not just become a maturing business and market your beers responsibly to a broad swath of beer consumers? People that are male, female, Republican, Democrat, Christian, Atheist, etc. Make it about the quality of the beer in the bottle/can/keg.

    Cheers!

I always took Stones Schtick as "we're soo much cooler than you can ever be, but, we're going to pretend that we're not by making self-deprecating jokes. But, really, we are always gonna be soooooo much cooler than you could ever hope to be. We are from Cali, of course, so that automatically makes us cool".

Time has only reinforced my opinion. I still like their beers, in general, but don't remember the last time I had one.

I was born in Truman's administration and here's a story. After retirement I moved to a small University town to spend some time with my young son while he finished up his degree and our little off campus hipshoot became a gathering spot for his friends. Funny because I'm as old as their grandfather, and when I started out to buy treats for the children (furry and non) in the hallway I heard my son's friend Lauren ask "how old is your dad". Pausing while walking past her I said, "I'm old enough to have heard our new president Dwight Eisenhower give his inaugural address on the radio. She looked at me and innocently said "gee, I didn't know they had radios in cars back then".

Since I'm old and white they assume I'm a Republican without knowing back in the 60s I marched along with folks who faced armed police, dogs and water canons. Our college kids today are no less idealistic and those I know are committed to a moral stance where they will not accept a job where "their voices will not be heard" or where they "can't make a difference" and I wish them well.

I've been around and know what's what. I've seen the mangled body of a mama san who used her fingernails to scratch the eyeballs of a tiger attacking her children. When I see the image of a "social justice warrior" decked out in black with a baseball bat over his shoulder posing for his facebook photos I'm thinking kid, you don't really have a clue.

I've consumed a lot of Stone Brewing's products, liked them, reviewed them fairly, and could put up with the parody that we mere customers were unworthy. The most recent events that gave rise to this thread show something more troubling than mere parody however, something deeper and, make no mistake, company attitudes flow from the top down. Accordingly, they can keep their beers and I'll be taking my trade elsewhere.
