First beer tonight from @CanConPhilly is LGA 2 LGB collab between Other Half and Monkish. Was excited to get this as I was in New York for my first ever visit and missed all the colabs by a few days.

Poured from a 16 ounce can dated 2/21 so about three weeks old.

Pours a thick, dark orange almost light brown color. Completely opaque with a quickly dissolving white head. Smell is subtle, little bit of booze and a touch of pineapple. Taste is boozy with a bit of sweetness at the end. I'm not getting much bitterness at all and not getting much fruit either. Medium body that sticks around.

Enjoyed/enjoying them immensely, thanks again for your kindness! Now more than ever I need to track down the sour you have given high praise. These guys are very talented, maybe they will put a tasting room closer to here, like Arrowood Farms (who I visited earlier-BIF hint hint) has done right in town.

Wyndridge You Waiting For?!? It's New Beer Sunday (Week 682)!

I CANnot guarantee that I will be with yinz next Sunday. I am headed to Allentown, PA for the Midwest Frozen Four regionals on Saturday & Sunday & I do not know what time I will be returning to LNC. If I CAN't make it, keep a good thought & I'll resurrect on Easter Sunday!

Hello NBSers! This is my first time posting in NBS so I’m probably gonna do it wrong, apologies in advance.

Tonight I’m trying Donkey Punch for the first time. A 14.4% imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels with coconut, marshmallow, and cocoa nibs.

A: Black like oil, akin to most Prairie stouts.

O: Sweet, boozy, and marshmallow on the nose.

T: Sweetness upon sweetness. First sips are all marshmallow, as I get through the beer the coconut starts to become more prevalent, all the while being boozy. Not a ton of bourbon flavor but it’s present, barrel is there too.

F: Thick. Coats your tongue and mouth.

O: A dessert beer for sure. Super sweet and takes time to drink. Base beer is obviously solid as it’s a Prairie stout, but the adjuncts work really well together. Maybe not as good as Apple Brandy Noir or Pirate Bomb, but damn this beer is excellent.

I was a tad skeptical of this program when I first heard of it, but damn this beer turned out. Cheers!

Nope, that works just fine. A lot of us do "official" reviews, and link to them, but this is the way a lot of other folks do it too. For example, you could just Cut and Paste what you've written above, into the beers profile page, and, BOOM!, you've done a review!

The whole point is to share what new-to-you beer you're having on a given day. We'll often chat about the weather, or what else we have going on. Welcome aboard!

Enjoy the games. We have went to two Frozen Four regionals in Cincinnati and it was a blast.

    Welcome. Great first post.

My second beer of the night is a 2018 bottle of Sucaba. Do we typically count a new vintage towards NBS? The last time I had this was around 5 years ago and I certainly did not have the beer 'sickness' like I do now.

    2018 bottle
Dark brown with red tint, gentle pour leaves around a finger of head. I smell the butter notes that I get with some bourbon, brown sugar, and a touch of pecan. Taste is toffee, brown sugar, bourbon. Some notes remind me of red wine, maybe dark fruit. Finish is long and woody, no heat. Mouthfeel is pretty thick, slightly oily but dries out quickly. Given how this beer is fresh, I can't wait to see how it ages.

    Good evening NBS!

Tonight I am having Acheron (2018) from Martin House Brewing Company in Fort Worth, Texas, a whiskey barrel aged imperial stout. This one comes courtesy of @LloydDobler and his impeccable taste.

It pours very dark and viscuous. A fluffy light brown head forms and retains nicely. Nose is sweet caramel malt, roast, and a hint of booze.

I'm getting black strap molasses and a big chewy malt profile. As it warms, getting more milk chocolate and a hint of caramel. Not too hot for a 12% beer that hasn't spent a ton of time in the bottle. Perfect weight and nice long finish.

    Thanks Chris!

Back to packing up boxes to send to Washington. This is taking forever.

    Cheers!

Brew is a thick, luscious, hot smooth stout. Bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, oak - you name it. Very solid BBA stout, and well worth your time. Thoughts below:

Poured from a 16 ounce can dated 2/13/18.

Pours an opaque pineapple juice color with a slight white head. Has a boozy, citrus smell. The booze doesn't overpower, but it's definitely present. Taste also is citrus with a little bit of booze at the end. It's sweet, but not too sweet. Slight bitterness as well. Medium feel, but nice and smooth. Not much of a lingering of taste. Overall a very nice beer. It has a slight boozy taste, but is still very easy to drink for a 10% beer.

Moderate pour yields a one inch creamy tan head over a very dark brown body with some sticky lacing. Nose of roasted malt, chocolate, and burnt espresso. Taste of bitter chocolate and espresso. Bitter finish with a good feel and overall, a decent RIS from Baltimore, MD. Cheers!

Yes, there's a lot of lemon in it. It is quite good. I am a lemon fan, and I do get a decent amount of it.

This beer pours a orange/golden color. Very murky. The head is white, 2 finger, frothy. Retention is poor.
The nose is a pine/citrus/lemon mix. Interesting aroma.
Taste - well, there's a lot of lemon in this beer. I get it mixed with some pine up front. The backside is really lemony.
Feel is moderate bodied. Tart feeling.
    Interesting IPA.

Maybe one more. Not sure yet. I'll enjoy this one for a bit.

I'm still relatively new when it comes to appreciating a good stout so I'm trying to use these NBS to really sit down and experience a stout each Sunday.

Pours a dark coffee color with about two fingers of chocolate brown head. Maple on the nose with a bit of booze and light chocolate as well. As the beer warms, the maple shines in a very good way. Also a bit of chocolate, just not as noticeable as the maple. Full, creamy feel, especially as it warms. A nice beer. Definitely better as it warms. Not as boozy as I'd expect.

Had my first Hop Stoopid. Pretty bitter but not overwhelmingly so. You would get into more trouble with Hop Bullet since its smooth for a DIPA. Looks nice in a glass and plenty of lacing. Aroma is pretty potent and has enough bitterness to let you know to back off.

Pulling the snifter back out, needing a nightcap. It may not be BOMB! but it does the trick. I remember seeing lots of tweets from Platform when they released this collaboration and finally stumbled across a bottle at retail

    Overall 3.78 rDev -5.5%
12oz can dated 11/28/17 poured into a snifter
A: Reddish-brown (honestly the color of the stripe above the wolve's ears on the can) with a thin head that settles quickly
S: Sweet malt, rye, light hops
T: Matches the nose. Hoppier than most barleywines, hops + sweet malt + rye spice
M: Fairly full bodied, a bit bitter, the alcohol is will integrated
O: A unique take on a barleywine, given the can this appears to be more Platform and they don't do that many big beers. I like the rye component but it could use more flavor

Many thanks @lordofthewiens for getting us off and running today. After riding knee to waist deep powder yesterday, and now being barely able to walk in my right quadriceps, I think I need both an increase in snowboarding specific leg strength...and possibly a different powder board. Couple of days per week at the gym with some new exercise-centric leg lifts should handle the strength aspect and hopefully I can score a new powder board on end-of-season close-out to address the equipment aspects. Nevertheless I don't need my legs to imbibe and type, so here we go.

First up today is both a new beer and a new brewery to me. Gifted from a friend, Harmonic Brewing's Kween For A Day IPA - Citra and Azacca is where I'll start. Pours a mahogany brown with a finger of variable density head. Color was a bit surprising, definitely one of the more brown IPAs that I've sampled. Good head retention, and there was a ring of head at the edge of the glass for the entirety of the beer, but it left limited to non-existent lacing. Nose if very herbal prominent, then some pine resin (more as it warms), and some earthy and bready (sourdough) aspects hiding underneath. Follows the nose well, but with greater prominence of the pine resin and bready aspects. Finishes with some bitterness, and limited/non-existent astringency or acidity. Medium bodied with medium carbonation, slick finish. Overall rating link, BA score = 4.18, rdev 0%
