no reason to be really.....lab tests just before packaging put the IBU at 19, by "hop character" I meant there is a faint whiff of German noble hops in the aroma, but there is virtually no bitterness at all

I'm very much looking forward to this, but I'm going to need to head up to Wisconsin or over to Indiana for this. Any way you'll know my best bet to find it?

It tested out above 23 during primary fermentation, but mellowed out during the extra long maturation period. If you followed this entire thread, you might remember that there was an issue with the paperboard wrap provider and die-line back in January, which delayed production by almost two months. The benefit? An extra six weeks of lagering! :sunglasses:

I remember! I'll never complain about extra lagering.

It has arrived, and I have been tasting some folks on it the past couple of days. Here is a look at it...

as you can see, we did a new die-line for the 12-pack, there is a tear-away end like our 6-packs, allowing you to keep the 12pack intact in the fridge and grabbing a can out of the side...

Wisconsin or Indiana are your best bet - Sixpoint doesn’t distribute to IL anymore.

Every time I've had it thus far, I didn't stop at one. This is the very first beer that we are releasing in 12-packs...and we completely side-stepped the six-pack for that reason. That's not to say we won't be doing six-packs eventually, but I think if I had a six-pack in my fridge on Monday I'd have to be back at the store on Wednesday to get more.

Nothing in IL right now, so WI or IN would be your best bet, depending on where you live within the state. Hopefully near a border!

Had a couple this evening when my wife cooked dinner. Looking forward to seeing your feedback starting this week.

Can't wait to locate this! Perfect timing... We have been buying nothing but lighter German styles or AAL types (Founder's Solid Gold, for example) recently, so this will be a must buy for us! Simplicity is beautiful.

Was at K-Town Woodman's last week -- no Alpenflo. Maybe by this week's end?

@Sixpoint -- no Beer Finder on the Sixpoint web site?

@Sixpoint Can't wait to rip into a bunch of these. One question: If this tastes amazing and it was lagered for the extra 2 months(due to packaging issue), the next time you make it are you going to lager it for as long? Will it be a different beer if you don't?

It didn't even land at the distributors until the end of last week. It will start populating shelves this week.

It must taste amazing everytime we package it, otherwise it won't get packaged.

Make no mistake, we are not trying to "disrupt" the "light beer" category by producing an "alternative" craft version of a lite beer or light beer or whatever you want to call it...this is a premium, all-malt, all German hopped Bavarian-style helles.

Its a proper beer with proper color and proper head, and you are actually supposed to taste the beer and enjoy it. Its a lager beer for people who actually enjoy drinking real, genuine lager with flavor and high quality materials and proper technique.

Real beer for those who appreciate good beer, my words, not yours. 40 years ago long before this internet thing friends from England would bring me stuff like Harviestoun Old Engine Oil, which I drank and enjoyed, while appreciating their kindness. I asked Jonathan, "do ya'll drink this stuff back home". He laughed and said "no, we drink lagers".

Just wanted to drive home the point of distinction, for if you wanted a "light" beer (i.e. an adjunct beer that has less calories) this is not the beer for you. You also are going to be primarily focused around price, for rice and corn are far cheaper brewing materials vs. high grade barley. Cutting hops out of the recipe too will save $.

A true Helles will not use any adjuncts, nor will seek cheap hops or cut down on the lagering time. There is substantial flavor, even if the beer is low to moderate in alcohol.
