A more sustainable pint? No hops needed

    Interesting article. My initial thought was, well yeah, but how does it taste. The text I bolded below seems intriguing in that regard. Link to referenced paper contained therein.

    Mildly surprised I never saw nor looked into (more the former) the full footprint of hops in beer. Could have an interesting discussion on the the sustainability....

    But, to the more direct point of the article, I wonder what range of flavors can be engineered. I do question as to how a beer can taste like "fruit loops" (copyright-free spelling continued) and have "no off flavors," though. Maybe my interpretation of the descriptions. I would guess any sense of being "artificial" would come out as an off flavor, so at least there is that.
