Good morning BA, have a great Saturday! Not much going on today, probably will clean up around the apartment. Need to finish up the NBS BIF box this weekend, and another gift box for my last trade. No need to do any beer hauls, plenty of stuff to review.

Fantastic DIPA! Aromas and flavors of huge tangerine, pineapple, orange juice, mango, melon, peach, papaya, passion fruit, lemon zest, orange peel, and light pepper/pine hops; with moderate honey, toasted bread, and light caramel malt sweetness; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel, herbal, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; very creamy/bready malts and some sticky hops in the mouthfeel. Lightly increasing lingering resin dryness, zero hop astringency. Feels more malty and juicy than last year. Closer to the original batch I reviewed in 2016. Likely will get another pack.

Still tasting fantastic! Flavors of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, and pine hops; with moderate honey, vanilla, toffee, bourbon, and toasted oak sweetness; and floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine/citrus rind bitterness and bourbon/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Medium-full bodied; balanced bready/grainy creaminess, sticky hops, and oak tannins in the mouthfeel. Slight resins and increasing bitter/tannin dryness. No astringency. Minimal warming 12.4%. Perfectly balanced between DIPA and barrels. Never overly sweet or heavy. They really nailed it with this one. Glad I bought a lot of it. Still holding up great nearing 11 months. Been fun watching it develop over time. More intense on vanilla/toffee barrel notes and honeyed malt sweetness, but still has plenty of hop character. I preferred the original batch with age one it, this seems to be trending the same direction.

This is insane! Aromas and flavors of huge milk/dark chocolate, nutty coffee, vanilla, cream, caramel, brown sugar, marshmallow, toffee, fudge, bourbon, rye whiskey, coconut, toasted oak, and dark/brown bread; with light notes of molasses, raisins, and smoke. Very mild roast/char bitterness and bourbon/rye/oak spiciness on the finish. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full body; with a very smooth, creamy, silky, velvety, and rich mouthfeel that is fantastic. Minimal chalky roast, oak tannins, or dryness. Dangerously smooth sipping, mildly warming 12%, zero barrel booze. I bought 2 more 4 packs, and there is even more available now. Seems like they keep shipping more in. Super rich malt complexity and balanced vanilla/coffee flavors; with perfect barrel integration. Never boozy, tannic, or drying. Not overly roasty or bitter. One of the smoothest BBA beers I have ever had. Great price as well. Glad this is basically a shelf beer locally right now. Wow.

Amazing this year as expected! We just got another batch from January. Aromas and flavors of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, molasses, fudge, brownie batter, marshmallow, vanilla, caramel, toffee, bourbon, toasted oak, and dark bread; with lighter notes of coconut, smoke, charcoal, raisin, fig, cherry, and dates. Touch of booze in the aromas as it warms, but not overwhelming. Light-moderate roast/char bitterness and bourbon/oak tannin spice on the finish. Very full bodied creamy, silky, velvety mouthfeel; some light slickness, chalky roast, and barrel tannins. Lightly increasing dryness from bitter char and bourbon/oak tannin. Very smooth sipper, mildly warming 12.9%, zero barrel booze. Definitely a step up from the base beer on complexity, super rich. Classic RIS flavors with awesome barrel presence; without being overly tannic, boozy, or drying. Absolutely love the marshmallow/fudge brownie notes that come from the barrel aging. Always worth the price, was much easier to come by this time around.

Big fan of this band, really similar to Haken. Prog rock/metal.

    The Alchemist - Dubbel Twubbel

By no stretch of the imagination is this a Dubbel, but it's one amazing beer, hoppy and with a hint of candi sweetness at the end. Absolutely delicious. The name of the beer is "Double Trouble" but pronounced as if one has rhoticism (the replacement of "R" sounds with "Ws"). Kind of like Elmer Fudd.

Tastes like bitter malt water at 15 weeks old, does Centennial really hold up this bad? Maybe a hint of pine left in there, but that's about it :slight_frown:.

Cheers you all and I want to tell you that you all are better than any kids wildest tea party dreams! I am getting ready to taste the foreign extra stout with you all later for the Irish dry stout tasting. Before we do that let's geek up in style with a few notes before we have the beer. Years ago I asked a very important question. What beer pairs with tomato sauce? That question has taken up my entire life.

I have the Foreign Extra because I like it best at that abv. They also make a draft version which is slightly lower in abv and over last year they released a rye pale ale, an american blonde lager as well as two new stouts to the US market; the West Indies Porter and the Antwerpen Stout . The beer in my glass is coming straight from Ireland which was not always the case. Craft beer fans are often the first to say that they dislike macro brewers in general and Guinness is definitely that. They also are the exemplar for the style Irish Dry Stout. The differences between the stouts can be subtle and between the foreign extra and the dry stout proper are the words slight and secondary notes as it applies to the presence of chocolate character, and the phrase lightly burnt which you should not see at all in the draft version. More assertive, higher bitterness and almost no hop flavor at all. Rather than sweet, Guinness Foreign Extra drinks nice and dry and it is one of the only dark beers I would pair with spaghetti sauce. The tomato is not the perfect compliment to the stout but upon tasting this one I daresay that you would have to agree the word is robust. You would also have to agree that because of almost entirely restrained fruity esters and that lightly burnt roasty character this beer will pair with the finicky tomato.

This one is practice. Used to be a girl carried lipstick in her purse, but beer changed all that.

That was a beer that really underwhelmed me the first time & the culprit was the age (+4 months ) IMHO. Better fresh to be sure

Well, I know it's dry Irish Stout day, but I'd rather drink this... especially after another bout with insomnia (you f(*@#U bastard!). At least this Hotbox always drinks well.. and is usually more interesting to me than most dry stouts. But hey, Cheers!

Just finished a pint of Byron Lager from Camden Brewery. Nothing exceptional but still a pretty solid lager that paired well with my burger.

I had no idea there was an Irish dry stout tasting today so i won’t participate, I guess I only log on to BA when I’m drinking, oh well. This is a cream ale from what I think is a very good newer brewery in Wichita. They just started canning, so I’ll be exploring their brews today.
