Happy New National Distributed NEIPA beer Sunday BAs!

I have been waiting to try this one for a while now! I love what SN had done with the style, New Belgium not as much but still solid and finally now I get to try this one!

Sam Adams New England IPA with a best by date of JUNE 2018

Beer pours a beautiful hazy orange color with a massive soft white and very creamy head that forms effortlessly, maybe a bit to easy but it must be some re-fermentation that has taking place in the can causing it.

The color on this one is awesome, it's not a murky beer, it's got that gentle soft orange glowing haze to it that is stellar!

Aroma is full of orange citrus, tropical fruits and a bit of dank herbs. It's not over the top in your face but is very well done and peasant. Also get that smoothie yeast character in the aroma.

Taste follows the nose! At 35 IBUs it is very smooth. Body is creamy and soft but on the lighter side of med. Definitely juicy forward but still but some bitterness. Loving the dank herbs on the pallet with lingering fruit notes.

Very Well Done by Sam Adams, will be buying more of this!

    Cheers BAs!

Next new beer comes again from @JBowenGeorgia and is just a solid stout. Breakout Stout from Jailhouse Brewing at 8% it is very smooth and drinkable. The coffee adds just a touch of flavor but other than that just a well made stout. Thanks John!!

Appearance 4 - Pours black with nice tan head sheets of lacing in patches around the glass.

Aroma 3.75 - Great roasted malt aroma, bakers chocolate, coffee, very light vanilla.

Taste 4 - Huge roasted malt, bitter chocolate, coffee, mild vanilla. Drinks alot like a black cup of coffee but there are more roasted malts flavors than coffee.

Feel 3.75 - creamy full bodied, slightly dry finish very smooth.

Overall 3.92 - This is just a solid stout, no bells and whistles added, the coffee is light but noticeable smooth creamy great flavors.

Nice review. And Collective Arts does mix up the can art on the same beer in 4 packs. Its happened to almost every one I have purchased. A few have all been the same.

Many thanks to @cjgiant for getting this great recurring thread off and running. While I'll admit that the long days and warmer weather have me more often grabbing bright lower ABV options. However, I still find that nothing pairs better with a campfire and some backcountry BBQ than sipping a big BA stout/porter/strong ale.

First of (likely) a couple contributions today is both new to me and Beer Advocate. Sacramento-local New Glory brings a Citra single-hopped APA named Citra Mon.

Pours orange bronze with sticky white head with moderate retention and left some mixed lacing. Nose is the highlight of this beer for me. Bright competing tropical and citrus, tangerine, mango, nectarine and grapefruit, some faint bready undertones once the beer is warm. Taste is not nearly as dynamic, and has more citrus prominence. Finishes with mild bitterness and astringency, clears palate quickly. Low-medium bodied with medium carbonation, slick on the tongue and finish.

Overall rating link, BA score = 3.96, rdev = 0.0% It's a well-crafted APA, but there's many better out there. As for Citra single-hopped recipes, I'd grab PseudoSue before this every time without hesitation.

Just now posting today, but I promise I'll make up for lost time. A couple from earlier today:

Evil Twin Imperial Biscotti Break with Chili and Hazelnuts

First off, I can't easily distinguish between hazelnuts and peanuts on the nose or palate. That said, I really didn't have to.

This was a phenomenally well balanced beer (so much so that I purchased a crowler). The chili peppers are restrained, yielding a light vegetal tone to the flavor, and a pleasant lingering heat on the lips and back of the throat that builds.

The brew is sweet but not overly so, thick and smooth, and big and bold. Notes of coffee, vanilla, chocolate, and definitely hazelnut (coming across as peanuts on the nose to me). Really balanced overall; this did not feel like a chocolate nut bomb gimmick, and the peppers were neither over the top hot nor completely absent.

    Really damn impressive.

New Holland Dragon's Milk Reserve Mocha Mint

This one ... not so much.

I find the normal Dragon's Milk to be an admirable brew primarily for its drinkability and availability, but otherwise nothing about which one would be tempted to write home. The Salted Caramel variant, on the other hand, was sublime; I devoured my four pack, enjoying every single sip.

Mocha Mint just didn't do it for me. It's thin and clean, almost like a lager, and the peppermint adds a brightness to the palate that kills all the dark, inviting depth of a normal BBA imperial stout.

Some vanilla and oak are present on the nose, but that's the extent of the barrel influence; there is essentially zero bourbon on the palate.

None of this is to say that the beer is unpleasant in any regard; simply underwhelming in the extreme.

Ok so I have to admit it now BBA Peche Mortel may be the best BBA beer I've ever tried.

Appearance - This beer pours out black as night with 2 fingers of beautiful mocha head The head does slowly fade and it is so dark that visible carbonation is almost nil.

Aroma - The oak and vanilla dominate here, it is a very sweet vanilla at that, is expresso, dark chocolate but wow that whisky stands above the rest.

Taste - This is on another level man, Oak is the first taste present on the tongue followed by an extremely sweet vanilla, then you are hit with expresso, and dark chocolate. They don't add a whole bunch of extra flavors but they dont need too. this is perfect. I'm ready to give it a 5.

Feel - A definite theme in this box, the feel again is thick heavy bodied and creamy, this may be the creamiest yet. It goes down ridiculously smooth with only the slightest hint of bitterness from the coffee and oak.

Overall - Its funny because this feels like the shortest review I've written on a beer from this box but it really is by far the best. This is something special and I understand why people hunt for it every year. Wow. I'm honestly lost for words.

The last new beer for this Sunday is De Dolle Dulle Teve (Mad Bitch). This is a Tripel coming in at 10%. Poured from fridge temp and allowed to warm over 30 minutes. Pours a beautiful orange with a massive amount of head. I poured like a Belgian, which then required about 5 minutes for the head to calm down. Nose is incredible, with strong notes of pine, grapefruit, vanilla, funk, sour patch kid. Taste is amazing. Really smooth citrus and pine notes. This is so well balanced. Almost no bitterness, although it's slight from the funky notes. Definitely getting some raisin and fig on the taste, along with some nice earthy notes. Mouthfeel is fairly dry, and the alcohol is almost not detectable. Overall, a fantastic beer for the style.

Spring in Wisconsin is still like winter. I'm glad the snowstorm in Iowa missed us, I can deal with the cold and wind.

I've been sitting on this beer from Stone and thought that it was time to drink it. It pours a dark copper with a 1.5 finger light tan head that dissipates quickly, but is present around the edge. Nice webbed lacing. Like scotch? The aroma is loaded with it. Very peaty, smoky oak, with caramel malts peaking through some tobacco. Flavor starts off with heavy peat, tobacco, with a smoky meatiness along with the oak and caramel malts. It is in your face. Feel is a bit light, but on par for a strong ale, and it has decent carbonation. I'm not a huge scotch fan, but this beer came together nicely after some age.

Definitely one of the BIF beers from @strohme2 that I was most excited about, here is Objectification, a sour blonde ale aged in oak wine casks from Transient Artisan Ales.

Pours a fruity, opaque orange, letting only the hint of a shadow through the body. Head production is meager at best, but retention is surprisingly nice, all things considered.

The nose lets you know right off the bat that you're dealing with a strong American Wild Ale, and it delivers on the palate: vinegar, oak, peach, apricot, white grapes, tangerines, and vanilla swirl in a moderate-to-strong sour ale. Pucker is right in line.

Well, I'm obviously in a generous beer rating mood today! Still, I think this beer is worthy; it reminds me of Allagash and Russian River (and between the label and the name, I'm sure it's meant to). It's an excellent representation of what American brewers are doing with the wild ale style.

    Thanks Justin, and cheers!

    F - medium-full body, low carb.

    O - Another C+P winner.

[IMG] Pours a dark slightly hazy with a solid 2 finger sticky off white head that leaves plenty of thick patches of lace, not sure when it was canned. 4

Smell is pine resin, tangerine, and grapefruit rind with maybe a hint of marijuana. 4

Taste follows some pine and marijuana upfront leads to tangerine and a healthy dose of of grapefruit. 4.25

Mouthfeel is hefty, plenty of life, a tad dry as I would expect from the style, and for me at 8.8% ABV goes down easy. 4.5

Overall this is a nice change of pace, old school DIPA that really is a little one dimensional but not a bad thing for my buds. 4.25

I love the base, and the BBA sounds AMAZING. Definitely just went to the top of my ISO list.

This review has me inclined to stop moving this perpetually to the back of the cellar. I'm not a scotch person per se (especially peaty ones), perhaps partially due to being 'weaned' on Canadian Whiskey growing up in the upper Midwest prairie. But your review gives me some intrigue to giving this a spin. Thanks!

Missed last Sunday recovering from a four day binge session spent fishing with old friends.
    Started today with this one.

Poured a slightly hazy amber orange with minimal white head. I had to read the can again to make sure I had poured a Regular Coffee, guess I was expecting a stout but after reading I see it's a cream ale.
Smells like a cup of coffee with cream.
Taste is like a cup of coffee with cream. Not a dark roasted coffee nor a mild one, getting some toffee like flavor too.
Feels like a creamy cup of coffee, very smooth. Can't believe this is a high gravity beer, alcohol presence is non-existant.
Overall a great brew that I would love to try again.

Greetings from rainy Tennessee! I'm not complaining as this is the first Sunday in a month that I have been home and not traveling. After some work, it's time to settle in with a new beer and some hoops. I've been saving this one courtesy of @TheIPAHunter for today and in the words of my benefactor, this beer is larrrge!

As you can see, I really liked this one. Beautiful in the glass: bright yellow and super hazy - as close to OJ as you can get. A normal pour produced a big, fluffy white head that reluctantly settled in the glass. The aroma was tropical with pineapple and mango. There was a sweetness and floral quality as well, I'm guessing from the honey. The taste stood up to the great aroma with huge fruity notes, floral sweetness, and some earthy/grassy undertones. I detected the honey but not the tea. Perhaps that was the floral aspect I noticed. The feel was light and fluffy, just like the look. Dangerously drinkable for a DIPA. Phenomenal beer - in my wheelhouse! Thanks Hunter!

Second contribution today is the most recent Revision hazy/juicy/NE-style DIPA recipe release. I'll admit, I was mildly impressed with the single comparable version of this recipe. The similar DIPA recipe, Battle of the Lords was released a little over a week ago. Hit my local distro Davis Beer Shoppe on Friday.

Pours a murky sandy yellow with several fingers of frothy head that left great ringed lacing. Nose is competing citrus and tropical aspects. Lots of navel orange and passion fruit, with some floral and pineapple accents. Faint lime grows more prominent as the beer warms, but then falls off after at room temperature for a bit. Taste follows the nose to a good degree with greater citrus prominence, with the lime aspect far more noticeable and more sustained than on the nose. Finishes with faint bitterness and some astringency and dryness. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation, fluffy on the tongue and creamy on the finish with just a smidgeon of tongue tingling from either astringency or carbonation.

Overall rating link, BA score = 4.26, rdev = 0.0% A solid hazy recipe that is closer to the mark on the mouthfeel than a lot of the West Coast-brewed NE-style recipes. It's in the middle-of-the-pack of Revision hazy recipes for my palate and preferences. But I preferred it far more than it's single-equivalent, and would happily consume again should our paths cross.
