Wasn't sure wether to pick this one up, as I had hear very mixed reviews, and it was pretty pricey at 15$ a sixer, but I thought that it is a pretty rare release and I probably won't see this one again, so grabbed it anyway over some Double Cream Stout. Mistake? On a side note what style is this beer stout or dubbel?

It's given here as a Belgian strong dark, but the reviews seem to waffle.
I picked up a single, haven't tried it yet so I can't say. Sorry.

I really like this beer. I'd describe it as a roasty dubbel. If you like robust porters and dubbels and see the two going well together, you'll like this one.

Its a nice brew and I like to drink it now and again. I think I would classify it as a Belgian Robust Porter or perhaps a Belgo Porter. Definitely gets its color and flavor from roasted malts and less so from burnt candy sugar the way a true Belgian Strong Dark Ale would.

    1. Post a thread asking whether it's worth it to buy the beer, even though you bought it already?
    2. You bought it because it's "rare"?

I think its ok. Nothing earth shattering. $15 for a sixer is fairly cheap though. Not sure what you normally buy, but I usually spend that much on 4pks and bombers.

I've always thought this beer is pretty meh and not worth the price. Bells makes several good beers but if you're looking for a good Dubbel stick with the Belgians.

I think it's pretty tasty. I don't remember what I paid for a sixer of it, but I'm pretty sure it was less than $15. Still, you made a good move IMO. Even if you don't like it, the label and what it says on the back makes the bottle worthy of collecting.

This beer is quite good. Seems like a dubbel to me.

It's not a beer I buy but that's not to say I don't like it. It's pretty tasty and unique.

BB HHNF is damn good though.

I agree, $15 for a six-pack is actually a great value for that style (though as this thread indicates, it's tough to say exactly what it is -- I still say it's a Belgian strong dark ale). Personally, I really like the beer. If you're hesitant to spend $15 on it, try to find a single bottle or have it on tap somewhere.

I only had it once, but really wasn't a fan at all. Bought two bottles, so second become an extra in a trade to a guy in Seattle. Was sending him some Bell's stuff already, amongst others.

I'd pick up a single if possible. It's good, but a little pricey to buy a $16 six-pack only to find out later that you don't like Dubbels with subtle, smoky, roasty notes (like a stout).

I didn't care for it at all. It's pretty useless asking opinions on the worth of a beer and whether or not it is good. You might think it's the best beer in the universe. Drink some and make up your own mind. Obviously some people like it at that price since they sell it year in and year out. It's definitely not rare. Just a smaller seasonal release.

I've always been a big fan of it. I always looked at it as a "Belgian Stout". Great beer.

An interesting beer. The flavor profile is genuinely unique, and quite good. That said, the price tag is pretty hefty. If you are on the face, I would pass it up. There are better beers to be had for less money.
