Butter, my dog, usually sits with me while I review my beers. This week has been no different than any other Sunday. He is very content sitting next to me or in my lap while I drink. His brother however tends to sneak drinks if I don't pay enough attention to where I sit my beer.

A: Beer pours a very dark black body. The nitro keeps a large amount of head all throughout the beer. Small amount of lacing stays behind. Very nice looking beer.

S: The main smell is of roasted coffee. Also getting some sweet notes of chocolate. The coffee is the dominant smell in this beer. Not much outside of chocolate and coffee going on in this beer.

T: Coffee and chocolate here just like the nose. Unlike the nose the two flavors seem to clash with each other. Very watered down flavors overall and and the two largest flavors don't work together.

M: The nitro makes the beer creamier than normal. Mouthfeel, however, is very watered down and too thin for my liking. The session style of the beer makes for an easy time drinking.

O: Average, at best, beer. Typically coffee and chocolate match well but that isn't the case here. Very watery flavor to the beer. The nitro keeps a good amount of head while drinking. The rest of the beer does not hold up to the look.

Hello NBS crew. Hope everyone is having a good day. Today I’m having a couple new offerings to share here. Happy Easter Sunday everyone, and here’s to NBS!
First brew for my NBS is Garage Brewing Company’s Hatch Chile IPA. 7.5 ABV, and canned on 1/4/18. Poured into 16oz tulip from 12oz can.

    Look: 4
Amber in color, and near perfectly transparent. Plenty of head formation, and generous amounts of residual lacing left on the glass.

    Smell: 3.75
Really not much going on smell wise. The can notes that I should smell Chile up front, but its very subtle. Hop profile is undetected as well.

    Taste: 4.25
Taste is pretty darn good, and surprisingly so. Chile pepper taste is dominant, with slight hop presence. On the finish, there is an evident taste of the chile pepper. Pretty tasty actually.

    Feel: 4
Medium in body with seemingly high carbonation, which isn’t an issue though. Easy drinking.

    Overall: 4.25
I was surprised by this beer. I really am enjoying the pepper presence. It’s easy drinking, and something I say is worth a try.

    Final BA Score: 4.09
    Cheers!

After three days of binge drinking in Nashville and an awesome beerfest yesterday I wasn't sure I would make it on here with a new beer today but I couldn't resist getting into a couple BIF beers from @Smokesnotes
First up was Obligatory from Transient.

Poured a super hazy yellow orange with a finger of white head.
Smells of sweet citrus, tangerine, a bit of orange and pineapple.
Taste is very similar, citrus is sweet tangerine but kept in balance with some orange pith, pineapple coming through as well.
Medium bodied with a good carb level, somewhat creamy.
Overall another great Transient brew, these guys are doing it right.

Second beer of the night is from @ovaltine

Pours honey colored, thin foam sits on top. Nose is fresh herbs, reminds me of parsley or cilantro, and bread. Taste is hop forward in a soft way, notes of grapefruit yield to a lemony finish. Mouth feel is medium, soft carb. This is a tasty one.

Happy NBS everyone and thanks to @lordofthewiens for another thoughtful intro. I really appreciate the work that you and @cjgiant put into writing them every Sunday as I’m guessing it isn’t easy!

My first new beer for today is a beauty of a BBA Imperial Scotch Ale from Wyoming, Black Tooth’s 1314 BA Anniversary Ale 2017. Thanks for sending this one, @JayWhitson! I’m pretty sure it’s my first beer from WY.

    Here’s my BA review-

    4.15/5 rDev -0.2%
    look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4 | overall: 4.25

Look- pours cola brown with a auburn tinges around the edges; 1/2 finger head that recedes to a thin ring; no lacing

    Aroma- butterscotch, toffee, vanilla, bourbon

Taste- follows nose closely with the vanilla being predominant but not overwhelming; bourbon enhances the other flavors, but isn't too strong or boozy; also getting a faint hint of bitterness toward the end

Feel- medium bodied, low/medium car, long sweet finish

Overall- very well done BBA Scotch ale in which the bourbon compliments the other flavors rather than dominating.

Hope to be back with one more tonight. Until then, cheers!

That was the first time it was bottled, previously labeled an English strong ale or barley wine. Glad you enjoyed it, cheers!

Garage Brewing's Apple Pie Pale Ale is next up on the list.
Warning: This one is for the grannies! (according to Garage Brewing)

    Edit: Bottled on 1/12/18

    Look: 4.25
Dark amber in color, with an unfiltered almost hazy look. As I poured, a mountain-sized head formed which is partially due to my lack of pouring skills and the glass. There is loads of residual lacing on the glass as well as the beer is drank.

    Smell: 4.25
Subtle yet present. Apples, cinnamon, nutmeg, and sugar are all present on the nose. There is no evidence smell wise that this is even a beer. Smell does resemble that of an apple pie, just very faint.

    Taste: 4.5
Very surprised by the flavor. Spices like cinnamon and nutmeg are in the majority, followed by a sweet sugary taste. On the finish, green apple flavor with more cinnamon and sugar. Really good tasting for what it is. Again, hard to tell this is a beer. Garage nailed the flavor of an apple pie.

    Feel: 4.25
Exceptional feel for a pale ale. Medium body and weight, with low carbonation. Very smooth and easy drinking.

    Overall: 4.25
At the end of the day, this is pretty impressive. I was skeptical about an apple pie pale ale, but Garage pulled it off. This isn't something I could drink daily, but still is an offering that is worth trying if you have the option to. For what it is, it's pretty damn good.

    Final BA Score: 4.35

Poured from a 16 ounce can. Pours a cloudy tangerine with a one finger white foamy head. Smell is very tropical with orange striking me as the most prominent. Sweet but a little bit boozy at the end. I can't pick out any specific fruit, but it's lightly tropical. Medium mouth feel, very similar to other Other Half beers I've had. A nice, easy to drink beer. Nothing jumps out at me as amazing on the taste, but it's still very good.

Popped open a crowler from @woemad I figure fresher is better. Nectar of the Gods IPA from White Bluffs. My wife and I enjoyed this one, it was a real easy drinker.

May as well stick with another Transient courtesy of @Smokesnotes Rainbows and Waterfalls.

This one pours a turbid dark orange with not much head but it was a pretty gentle pour.
    Smells juicy, tropical, melon dominate.
Taste follows with ripe cantelope, guava, mango, pineapple, maybe a hint of peach.
Full bodied, thick creamy feel. Slighty dry finish.
Overall another great one from Transient. Wish these guys distrubuted down here.

Final beer tonight is a nice stout from @CanConPhilly. Like I mentioned a couple weeks ago, stouts were not something on my radar and I'm using these Sundays to try to change that.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle. Pours a dark black with a one finger chocolate brown head that dissipated almost immediately. Smell is roasted oats, but not much more. Taste is light chocolate, but otherwise nothing really stands out. Full feel but not sticky. Not the motor oil thick feel that some stouts have. Overall a decent stout.

I split a bottle of that last night with my dad and wife and thought it was excellent. I got a lot of mango flavors out of it.

Thanks for sharing, Jack. I particularly appreciated your sharing of your encounter with Shaun Hill. It seems nowadays negativity travels faster, further, and louder. I've read some people say he's "standoffish" or "dismissive." And these comments are then repeated by others, and they seem to grow. My feeling was, " So, maybe he's not the most demonstratively extroverted guy, so what." I don't know. Never had the pleasure to even walk the woods near HF. Some day...
Anyways, I wandered. Thanks for sharing your positive experience.
