I took 11 years off once, starting at birth.

I typically drink 2 times a week, but I do imbibe in more than a couple when I do. I haven't had a beer since March 18th. I plan on going booze free until April 18th.. my birthday. The only bump in the road will be April 14th, when a few family members and I will be in OC Md. for a weekend get-together. Even still, that won't be the end of the world if I cheat 4 days early. We'll see.

It’s not that deep. When the industry is both work and play sometimes you need a break.

Your body starts to crave sugar when you suddenly stop giving it sugar in the form of booze. Talk to someone who has gone clean from most any drug, and they tell you that there aren't enough candy bars in the world.

I've never quite grasped the point of taking a given month off. If one just takes a day a week off, over the course of the year that's 52 clean days, as opposed to the 30 days in a month.

I won't be joining you this April but I usually take a month off a year. It isn't that big of deal to get through it if you don't think about.

I keep it to a weekend thing most weeks. I like to mix a new IPA or two and follow later with a new higher octane specialty beer.
I wouldn't dare try that during the week. Wait, I did try that when I was younger.
The only thing I hate worse than not having a beer because of work the next day is working the next day after having a beer(s). I enjoy the relaxing idea of no commitment come the next sunrise.
I have taken several weeks off for no particular reason. Nothing really changed.
You should take your survival of March as a sign. What kind of sign I have no idea. I'll have a couple beers this weekend and think about it.

I'm gonna try to go to the gym after work rather than drink more often this month. Got a suit fitting for my wedding next month. Gotta try to cut a few pounds. But tonight.... i think I'll watch michigan play ball with a beer in my hand (recording it now, please don't tell me the score haha)

Last year I took the month of February off and I lost seventeen pounds and after the month was over I felt that my palate was completely reset. I felt like I was much more sensitive to hop bitterness and I definitely enjoyed drinking hoppy beers until my body got used to them again.

I've severely cut back, after the Super Bowl I had one or two once a week or so. I'm hitting the gym hard since Feb, I'm losing weight but at my age I'm not going Spartan for anything. I'll drink what I want and go hit the gym harder.

Given my job that would be a nearly impossible thing to do, good luck though.

Pretty sure we are in the same biz.

I haven't stopped for a full month since I started drinking at 21 (yes, I was a good boy before then - really!!!! Only had a couple in Canada or a cruise where drinking age was 18.)
I've skipped weeks here and there, passing this week, for Passover - beer and most liquor isn't kosher (except some potato-based spirits) and while I had wine at the Seder, I usually won't open a bottle on a random day.
I'll pass when I'm sick - even for a cold (why drink if you can't taste it) and random days or weeks here and there.
PLus I have a few pounds I want to get rid of, so this will help, and the 5K program I'm doing won't hurt either.

Let me clear out all these IPAs out of my fridge first until I have stouts and barleywines left. How does the middle of May sound?

    Shit. That’s DLD. Nevermind!

I have surprised myself by staying clean for four months, before that it was tasting whisky 3-5 times a week, and before that some beer three times a week, longest total break was three weeks. Just got fed up with the addictive tendencies of alcohol. So my three months into the newly found NA beers have been very rewarding. As much I know NA beer is here to stay, alcohol feels like an unnecessary ingredient. For me that is. Guess I just have had my share, probably for life.

Do what you gotta do. It isn't that terribly difficult, and when you do come back, beer tends to taste even better than before for a while.

For my part, I do try to cut out alcohol during the work week, as even fairly minor drinking sessions seem to affect the quality of my sleep - I may get to sleep easier, but the alcohol must take away REM cycles or something, because 7 hours of sleep after drinking even fairly small amounts feels less restful than 5 hours of sleep after not drinking. Then I feel lethargic and less likely to go work out....so that Tuesday when I had 2-3 beers ends up turning into a Wednesday of doing nothing.

Weekends, I'll definitely have some drinks, but even then I find I don't drink as much as I used to. I still love the taste of alcohol, but I hate the effects. I don't get much of a pleasant buzz anymore, I just get hung over the next day. Let's face it, it tastes amazing, but it's not exactly the most gentle drug out there. I think this is one of the reasons why the alcohol industry is so threatened by cannabis.

Lots of days I will just have a beer or one pour of whiskey. Some days nothing. Sundays tend to be a bottle of red wine with dinner. Cheers.
