Fully agree with this. It gets talked about somewhat, but out of all the beers I've had from them I think TABA has been my favorite.

Agreed, I really enjoyed EMU. While EMU was pretty boozy on day 1, it smelled and tasted amazing and I'm sure it will taste even better now that a week and a half has passed. A lot of breweries release triples that are just straight up burn.

never refrain.... the terrorist win when you refrain

the eq/evil twin collab is the best beer EQ has put out in a long fucking time so thanks for agreeing.. dhop9 was better than the 3 OH collabs you reference but that isn't saying much imo, the best OH lately was the alverado collab.. some annihilation or something or other

EQ kind of dipped once they expanded a bit, which is not shocking to me.. seems they are getting things back on track.. love their sour bottles however, thats really where they are under looked... damn damn damn fine sours which don't get much love

I actually enjoy Magnify, but that quad dry hopped TIPA was quite a mess.

When they get it right they are pretty good, but there is a reason for the expression, "that Magnify burn".

digdug, what are your favorite hoppy beers of late? EQ and OH are churning out some quality stuff imo so am just curious as to who is hitting it out of the park for you in this region at the moment. I haven't loved every EQ release but can't think of any brewery churning out non-sour IPAs within a few hours that are doing hoppy beers better at the moment.

best ipa's of 2018 for me so far?

    The EQ/Evil Twin
    HF S&S 4
Triple Crossing out of RVA... basically all their IPA's have been hits
    Aslin Grovestand
    Brix City "Jam" IPA's
Hudson Valley - but sour ipa's with adjunts so those don't really count for "IPA's"
Tired Hands - Occasionally can still brew a damn fine IPA but often they miss these days
Troon - Thank you Russell was phenomenal
Magnify - once in a blue moon they make something that blows my hair back, Thing of Beauty was a suprise
OH is generally always solid but nothing has stood out to me as being above the bar.. maybe the recent alvarado collab, the anniversary beers were good.. mainly 3 which is a repeat.. the monkish collabs that were triples were all a smidge boozy as to be expected with tripa's i guess

idk, just a lot of places making these neipa's these days and seems that when they do them every week, every week they become worse and worse

triple crossing has probably wowed me the most so far in 2018

my theory on all of this, be it ipa or whatever is that when places first started canning.. it was special... canning was new... breweries put forth maximum effort.. each passing week it's now just the thing to do.. then they announce a bottle.. now bottles are out of the ordinary .. brewery puts max effort into the bottle since it's not the norm... bottles now > cans... so i've been focosing more on places that will drop a bottle, regardless of the style, as in general, i personally feel they are paying closer attention to detail when they do a bottle.. this is a mass generalization, i know that, but my taste buds have supported this theory so far in 2018 as bottles i get from the usual suspects are now blowing my hair back way more than cans... could be my palate/my vision on what's going on augmenting my own reality, but try it out yourself

with all that said, best shit i've had in 2018 was the recent batch of HF Mary cans.. fuck me is that "Craft" beer... .totally perfect and dialed into perfection, i dare you to get a can and drink that beer and find a fault in it

In a thread that constantly delivers, this is one of the best. Lol. What a conspiracy theory. I heard they were forced to change their grain base and reduce their hopping rates as a result of nothing changing with their lease with the restaurant. The stress of it all led to lower morale that led to sloppier, less inspired brew days. Pick it up, EQ.

I mean not that it is not fun to joke about brisket, but my understanding is that the brisket is bought and cooked by the brewers and given out free to the customers on brewery grounds.

I've been following this on and off but wanted to confirm, EQ does not have a taproom right now right?

Does that also mean it is only open during can sale days and close up when everything is sold out? I'm trying to see if it's worth visiting over the weekend since I'd be nearby

No taproom, no. There is a taproom and restaurant in the same building, but they have severed ties. EQ sells out of the brewery during their business hours, crowlers and possibly cans from the prior Saturday if you're lucky (no pours). They keep their 'What's Available' link on their website up to date. I am guessing cans Saturday last most if not all of the day, but if all else fails you will have the choice of 3-5 varieties in crowlers.

If you are near by, grab some cans than head over to Rushing Duck for a few pours. It is 20 minutes away. I find Rushing Duck's taproot to usually be a good hang.

I'm going to be in the area around 1:30-2 PM today. Not looking to wait in line - if I get there around this time would you expect that I could grab cans without waiting (assuming there are some left)? Or does the line usually last into the afternoon?

The line will be gone. You should be able to grab some cans and/or crowlers

Jesus, $5/4 oz for every beer on that list, including IPAs? That’s straight insanity.
