any recommendations on getting bottles home when flying? Haven't been to DLD since 2014 when I use to live 15 mins from FFF. Now I'm flying in and trying to plan getting bottles home. Checking on flight or mailing to myself......thoughts?

I’d put pretty good odds on Brain Tentacles playing DLD. They’d be a good one to break up the grindcore monotony.

I use a wine check and can check up to 12 bottles. I put them in ziplock bags first in case they leak, but I’ve never had a problem yet. TSA always leaves me a note telling me they inspected my bag.

That would be real fun - and a great fit. They're playing the FFF (and Dark Matter) sponsored Stoned and Doomed Festival two weeks after DLD, so I wouldn't be surprised if playing both was proposed.

Cashless DLD? What kind of metal fest doesn't take coins?

I just noticed Surly was not on the DLD Beer page for breweries....Considering back in 2016 they were advertising DLD on their own website I have to wonder if they are spiteful over the whole Haug thing....

FWIW, I brought back 24 bottles of Westy 12 and 3 bottles on Cantillion from Belgium. Bought a brand new suitcase in Brussels to stuff it all in (got to check a free bag with the flight, wife only had a carry on, so I checked the beer bag for free ). Wrapped it all in dirty clothes, and hoped for the best. Didnt lose 1 bottle...

TSA did go through the bag, and left me that little note. All was well though.

just check it, ive never had a problem as long as its under 50lbs. flew back from boston last month with 3 bottles of tiramisu and 16 cans from trillium, everything arrived safely. i used a little bubble wrap but mostly my clothes to protect everything, and some broken up cardboard to frame it all off.

There will be no issues with bringing back bottles or cans. I travel very frequently for work and I've brought bottles back from every side of the US and from Europe as well. Never had one issue or one break. I even packed some of them half-assed too and those never broke. Just don't put bottles or cans in an empty suitcase.

As others have said, bring them back in your luggage. If for some reason you don't have room in your luggage, you can always buy a box and pack it up just like you're shipping something and check it as luggage. I encountered this problem when I realized I had about 40 cans/bottles to bring back from CA last week, and didn't have nearly enough space amongst our 4 suitcases. So, I packed what I could in our suitcases (bubble wrapped and in a ziplock bag), then bought a box with a bunch of bubble wrap and other stuff to put in there for protection. You could also find a box with a styro shipper, but I couldn't track one down where I was at. I checked it with Southwest, and had no issue. Just be careful with the weight restrictions...my box was 44 pounds, so I was lucky to have spaced out the bottles/cans appropriately across bags.

Even if you have to pay for the baggage fee of $25 or so, that is still cheaper than shipping it to Oregon most likely, plus you will have it with you quicker.

I usually just bring 2 bath towels, line the suitcase, and then wrap the bottles in t-shirts, hoodies, and clothes, and then put another towel on top.

    Never had an issue.

With a BA Dark Lord though, I’d probably wrap that in a full bath towel on its own.
