10th annual LA Beer Festival this Saturday (4/7) at LA Center Studios in DTLA. Anyone been before? Is it worth the $50~ GA admittance for what appears to be unlimited beer for 3 hours?

Any suggestions for some high quality IPAs from the breweries that will be represented?

Expect a lot of mediocre beer. This is more for the I want to get white girl wasted crowd that thinks goose island and ballast point are craft beer. Don’t expect any of the good craft breweries to bring anything more than their basic ipa or Amber. You would get better craft beer doing a brewery crawl through downtown. They do normally have a band and that is cool, but other than that it is an easy pass. These guys do great marketing, because I don’t know how they keep having this event with bad beer.

Thanks. That's kinda what I was thinking this was, too. None of the breweries really stood out to me as some of the better ones in LA.

Yeah, I'd suggest just skipping that and going to Highland Park Brewery/Mikkeller/Modern Times or something.

Not a good sign when Mike's Hard Lemonade is one of the breweries mentioned.

Speaking of Beer Festivals. . . .how's the Bruery's Anniversary shindig? Never been. Heard it's a hoot. I'm going this year. I usually don't do festivals and anniversary party's. It looks like one of the better ones in the OC/LA area.

in this era of political correctness, I'm not sure that term is appropriate. and, in all fairness, women of color often get just as inebriated as caucasian women.

It is very fun. Lots of good breweries pouring top notch beer of all styles. Some places like Bottle Logic command a very long line. I generally skip the lines and still drink amazing beers all day. You @Frosty11161 and myself will all have to meet up.

It’s good, I’ve been the last 3 years, and last year was by far the worst. Much more crowded, long bathroom lines, and awful food. Hopefully, it returns to what it was in prior years. Beer will always be top notch. Only the big hype breweries will have a line, and I suspect great notion will have a line this year.

Hopefully URGE Gastropub will fix the food issues from last year...That food last year was sad.

I'd rather give my money to the folks at LA Beer Week. They focus on local, independent breweries not these big beer sellouts. The kick-off fest is coming up June 16th. I go every year and it's a blast and the beer is pretty great.

    Speaking of...

Early bird tickets were already on sale for weeks at this time last year. Anyone heard anything about when info starts coming out? Saw they just changed website and Twitter logo this week so assuming soon.

I second this, you will have a Really good time. Wanted to go attend this & woodshop but with a new member of the family on the way, I've set my priorities & will have to pass though I have no FOMO.

Been going every year since they held it at Union Station. Gets better every year. No surprise with the growth we have seen in the LA brewing scene.
Definitely worth it if you have an interest in LA breweries. VIP tickets are also worth it. Extra hour is great and the VIP longue they introduced last year was a big plus. ( Air conditioning, bathrooms, balcony, elbow room. )
